Regulations for Import to Malta
There are rules and regulations that must be followed when importing a vehicle. Some of these regulations include:

- If you are registered as a citizen of Malta and are coming back after living abroad, you will not need to pay duty taxes to import your vehicle

- All vehicles will need to contain a vehicle repair log
- It will be required to be inspected within seven days of arriving and clearing port.
- You must fill out forms VEH01 to VEH04 prior to your vehicle being inspected by the Land Transport Directorate.
- You will need to bring with you a Certificate Of Conformity of your vehicle which includes where it was purchased and the manufacturer of the car.
- You will need to pay all registration charges so you can place registered tags on the vehicle in order to drive in Malta
To figure out how much you will pay for the registration levy, you can find out the evaluated of your vehicle and include the type of emissions that is currently on your vehicle. If you only plan to be in Malta for a short period of time, you will not need to pay any new taxes. You will be responsible for taxes if you become a permanent citizen. Shipping Methods for Malta
If you want to import your vehicle to Sliema, you can do so by the Roll On/Roll Off shipping method or the container shipping method. The Roll On/ Roll Off method of shipping is the most affordable way to transport your vehicle to another country. Your vehicle will need to go through a certain check list in order to qualify to be driven onto the deck of a ship. It will be driven by its own engine onto the ship and then harnessed down for the duration of the trip. Once it reaches the port in Malta, it will be unstrapped and then driven off of the ship.
