How to Get a Vehicle Transported to the Port of Departure
Shippers that live close to the seaport that their car will be shipped from can simply drive their vehicle there. If the customer cannot deliver their vehicle due to distance, shipping services operating on a door to door basis will be able to haul your vehicle on a transport carrier. Extra service fees will apply for anybody that needs their car to be picked up.
Check for Restrictions on Personal Items
People transporting a vehicle inside of a container are permitted to transport household belongings inside the remaining space of the container. All personal items will need to be cleared by customs before they can be allowed into the country. It doesn’t happen often, but if the car doesn’t meet certain specifications it cannot be allowed on Bizerte roadways.
Why Customs Might not Release a Vehicle to the Shipper
One reason Customs may hold your vehicle is if you fail to present the necessary paperwork. Shippers must have the car title and registration, drivers license, insurance policy, passport, and visa. Make sure to modify the vehicle to meet certain specifications so you can avoid problems with Customs. If someone else is appointed to come for the vehicle, they will also be required to show the proper documents such as a letter of permission and photo ID.
Other Requirements for Shipping a Vehicle to North Africa
When the vehicle arrives in Tunisia, it must pass an inspection before it can be released. The shipper or the appointed person picking up the vehicle must be present on the day of arrival.
