Customs in Bursa.
Bringing a car into the city of Bursa will require some careful planning and decisive action on your part to provide information pertaining to how long your stay in Turkey will be as well as gathering the necessary documentation for residency and auto import. Turkey allows people to import cars under two separate claims. Temporary resident or permanent resident. Gaining a permanent resident status must be applied for and applicants will need to show documents that they are either attending school, moving due to a job or they need to have a retirement statement of you are a retiree moving to Bursa to live. It is not always easy to obtain a permanent resident status so you will want to apply for it as early as possible. For temporary imports, you may import the car on a temporary basis for up to three months. At the end of the three month time duration you will be required to export the car back to the United States. There are no taxes or duty fees when importing a car to Bursa, but you will still be required to pay shipping taxes.
While you won’t have to pay taxes on imports, you will still need to supply customs with the correct paperwork including your passport, school or work visa, motor vehicle title, bill of lading and the blue card showing resident status. Your transport agent will let you know what other documentation you will need prior to shipping. You can also contact the Turkish Embassy in Washington, DC for further details.
Before the Car Ships to Bursa.
Before the scheduled shipping date you will need to make sure that all paperwork has been turned in, filled out or requested. Any missing paperwork or paperwork that has not been filled in correctly will risk the car from being cleared at customs. You will want to make sure that all payments have been taken care of and that the car has been prepared for transport in the way that your agent has told you to prepare. Most likely you will be required to clean the car, have it emptied of anything personal and will need to have fuel and fluid levels at certain levels and the battery charged. You will also need to disarm the alarm system. Just before the car is scheduled to be picked up for transport you will need to complete a physical inspection of the car to ensure that there are no visible damages to the paint or exterior. The carrier driver or the shipping personnel will walk through the inspection with you and will document anything that may be found.
How Your Car Can Ship to Bursa.
Since Bursa is a coastal city, there are two ways to have the car delivered to you by sea transport. The first, and most widely used way will be with Ro-Ro Shipping. This simple method of transport ships daily for thousands of car owners worldwide and is the most cost efficient and rapid way to ship by sea vessel. Cars of all sizes are easily transported by the hundreds all on one Ro-Ro ship which helps keep the cost down for individual shippers. Cars will need to be empty when transporting via Ro-Ro. If you prefer to pack items inside the car during transport or if you have an expensive car that requires extra transport protection, then Container Shipping is also available. Shipping by container will let you pack items inside the car during transport, thus making a complete relocation to Bursa very efficient. Containers do have a fee for the container use, but many people find they can share a container with another customer who is having a car transported to the same shipping port and that will help keep the cost down to a minimum if it is possible.
Your agent will explain the rules of overseas shipping and how each type of transport works. They will also let you know which would be the best type for the automobile that you own and which will allow the fastest delivery schedule.
