The city of Zebbug or Citta Rohan is at the southern end of Malta and is the considered one of the oldest settlements in Malta. If you want to move to Zebbug, on a temporary or a permanent basis or returning citizen, you will want to bring your vehicle with you.
When you plan on living here for an extended period, then you will need to have your own transportation in order to get around. Public transportation systems are available but they may not be when you are in need of it. That is why If you want to visit any of the adjoining islands, you will be able to travel by ferry or you can get around the city of Malta as well by simply driving. The roads in Malta are maintained very well all year around. You will be able to sight see along the way.
Before you can ship your vehicle off to Malta, you will need A1 Auto Transport Service to assist you in the complete process. This includes paperwork, documentation, scheduling the import, and being available to pay the duties and taxes required. We are here to assist you at every step of the process. Proper Documents Needed.
You need to provide all the proof and requirements in order to verify the vehicle belongs to you. In order to do that, you will need a copy of the following:
- Social security card.
- Driver’s license.
- Car title.
- Car insurance.
- Vehicle specs that include the engine number, model, chassis number.
- Signed power of attorney if this is applicable.
The vehicle you are importing to Malta will first need to be prepared for import. You need to be living in Zebbug for at least six months prior to importing. You will also need to be the owner of the vehicle for this long as well.
There are two different shipping options to choose from. The first option is Roll On/ Roll Off and the second is the container shipping method. You will first need to consider the budget you have on shipping in order to determine the best method of shipping for you. If your vehicle is considered a luxury vehicle, or even an expensive vehicle, then you will consider the container shipping method instead. There are two containers to choose from; 20 foot or 40 foot containers.
If you choose the Roll-On/Roll-Off method of shipping, it is more affordable but there are more things you will need to do in order to prepare your vehicle for transport. If you are a citizen who is returning to the country after living abroad, then you will need to follow certain exceptions to move your vehicle over and not have to pay any type of duty or taxes. The vehicle you bring over will need to be kept by you for a period of at least a year or maybe two before you can sell it. If you are tax exempt, then you will simply need to have the vehicle inspected by the Malta Transport Agency.
With plenty of taxes, most of the permanent imports are taxed at 10% while there is no tax on temporary imports. You will have seven days to apply for a license plate and driver’s license, while your vehicle will need to be inspected upon arrival. Additionally, you will need the forms VEH01 and VEH 02, VEH O3, and VEH 04. You will need to have a letter of conformity that your vehicle follows the emission laws in Malta. All fees will need to be paid in full. If you have any questions, contact the Embassy of Malta.
