Bodo is city and capital of the Nordland county of Norway. It is the administrative and economic center of the municipality. It is located north of the Arctic Circle and it’s currently the major urban area.

Norway has a considerable amount of expatriates who work and study abroad in different countries. This is why the import regulations have become way more efficient. There are a lot of documents that need to be submitted to the Norway Customs and they have to get checked and verified before you are allowed driving with your vehicle in the city.

If you intend to live there for months or for a year, you have to get the necessary work or residential permits. Apart from the documents that you’d need to prepare for that, there is additional paperwork if you want to import your vehicle from the USA. Norway is a part of the EU and there are stringent emission laws to be abided by. In case, your vehicle doesn’t qualify, you will need to get the specific modifications done before you ship it out of USA.

Documents that you have to submit.

  • Residence or work permit.
  • Insurance Certificate.
  • Original and copies of your title deed.
  • Ownership proof.
  • Registration documents.

If you are want to calculate the entire shipping cost, you have to consider the charges for the freight, cost of the car and the insurance. Furthermore, there is 30% custom tax calculated upon the CIF. Additionally, there are limitations and requirements that you have to abide by if you want to use the Roll On/Roll Off shipping methods:

  • Keep only floor mats, spare tire and keys and the car jack inside.
  • Remove all personal belongings.
  • Only ¼ of a gas tank full.

Abide by the regulations.

In case you plan on living in Norway on an extended period, it is essential that you adhere to all requisite laws.  If you fail to do so, you will likely hit a lot of bumps along the way. The restrictions mentioned above are only for RORO. This is why if you choose to go with container shipping, you wouldn’t have to account for them. What is more, you can pick between a 20ft and a 40ft container and store your vehicle within it along with as many personal belongings as you can.

The vehicle is going to have to pass through emission tests and it has to get modified to fit the regulations. Make sure that all of the above is handled prior to the import in order to avoid delays. Once the vehicle is delivered, you have to get the payment transferred for the taxes, duties as well as for the levies. All receipts need to be shown and submitted to the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Transportation and Communications. They will approve the registrations and ensure that your vehicle can be legally driven here.

In any case, you can check with the Embassy of Norway in Washington DC about the latest requirements. If you need to get any further information regarding anything related to the import.
