Bortown or Bor as the city is named is the bustling capital of the state of Jonglei in South Sudan. It is situated on the eastern banks of the River While Nile, about 120 miles from Juba, the capital of the nation.
If you want to stay in Bor for a long time, you will want to consider bringing in your own vehicle so you can get around wherever you need to go. Although public transportation is available, there’s nothing like having your own vehicle with you. Additionally, it helps you tide over communication and language barriers that you might encounter.

Shipping Regulations and Requirements.
When you import your vehicle to South Sudan from the United States, you will want to know how much it will cost you so you can budget for it. If you have a newer vehicle, your tax percentages will be higher; it doesn’t matter how long you plan to stay or why you are there. When you are ready for importing, you will need to contact A1 Auto Transport Service for more information. The documents you will need include:
- Proof of ownership.
- Title of the vehicle.
- Vehicle registration.
- Proof of insurance.
Shipping Methods to Choose from.
When you are ready to ship your vehicle from the United States, you will need to select the best means of shipping for your needs. You will have three choices to choose from; air shipping, Roll On/ Roll Off, and container shipping. The one you select will be the one that best suits your needs as well as your budget.
The Roll On/ Roll Off method, or RORO method, is the most chosen method of shipping due to its cost. When choosing this method, your vehicle will be placed on the deck of a ship where it will be stripped down for security purposes. The RORO method requires that your vehicle is completely empty with the exception of the car jack, spare keys, and floor mats. Your vehicle must be capable of running on and off the deck of the ship.
Container shipping is another option to choose from. This method is slightly more expensive than the RORO method. With container shipping, the vehicle is driven to the port where it is then placed inside the container. There is a 20 foot or 40 foot container to choose from. You are able to pack any personal items inside the container along with your vehicle. Your vehicle will need to meet all checkpoint requirements in order to use this method of shipping.
South Sudan is not capable of accepting imports due to the fact that there are no seaports. You will need to contact the South Sudan Customs Service (SSCS) in order to determine which port your vehicle should be imported to.
