Importing a vehicle into Thailand for your own personal use can be overwhelming if you do not have the correct documents and knowledge, in addition to a trustworthy and reliable auto transport company. The first step in the process is to determine whether the vehicle will be in Thailand permanently or temporarily. If you only intend to keep the vehicle in Thailand for less than 6 months, then it is best to follow the temporary import process. Any longer than 6 months, however, requires the permanent import process.

Temporary import
Although no customs duties, taxes, or fees are payable for the temporary import of a vehicle, a bank guarantee or cash deposit must be secured in the total amount, in case the vehicle is not re-exported out within the time period allowed (6 months). Upon timely exportation, the importer will receive back his/her cash deposit or bank guarantee.

Descriptions for A1’s Overseas Transport Methods
- LoLo Shipping: This overseas shipping service requires the help of a crane to lift your cargo safely onto and off of your the boat. A1 strongly urges this service to those shipping large inoperable vehicles and crated cargo.
- RoRo Shipping: This is the cheapest shipping service available through us. Your cargo must be capable of rolling onto and off of the ship, meaning it must be operable. This is a popular open air service that leaves your cargo exposed to bad weather conditions and other potential outdoor hazards. Make sure the value of your cargo is fully covered under our insurance plans before it is shipped off.
- Container Shipping: Container shipping is available to those with heavy equipment that fits inside of a 40ft shipping container. Since this shipping service protects your cargo the greatest, it tends to cost more than the other available options.
- Flat Rack Shipping: Flat rack shipping uses a metal frame to secure your cargo before it is placed on top of the ship for its travels to Thailand. The frame with the cargo still fastened securely, is then lifted off of the ship with caution.
