Nashville has attracted new companies by the droves and a popular destination for those who want a little star power in the heartland. We have teams of expert drivers standing by to help you with all your questions and specific needs.

Using Tennessee Car Transport Companies

When you are looking to book Tennessee car transport services, keep a few key tips in mind.

  • Pay attention to the company’s reputation: Ask around to people that may have used the company in question and take a look at their customer testimonials. The more you can gauge the customer experience, the more you can tell if this is actually a company that you want to work with.
  • Never pay more than what you can afford: Moving your vehicle shouldn’t break the bank; shop around for a rate that you can afford. The last thing you want is to pay more for your auto transport than you can, only to find that you don’t have anything left over for gas when you get to your destination.
  • Clean your car out ahead of transport: Make sure your vehicle is clear of all personal effects before shipping it. This ensures that not only you do get to refrain from worrying about something disappearing from your car, but also it puts the transport company at ease.

Visit the Tennessee Department of Transportation website for more information on Tennessee and the plentiful opportunities in which it can offer those visiting or relocating to the state.

Long Distance Auto Transport to/from Tennessee

Transporting your car due to a corporate relocation or because you’re going to college in another state can be a tough feat to do. When moving to a faraway place, an auto transportation service is the easiest and most convenient way to ship your car.

When opting for such a service, you may prefer either an enclosed or an open carrier. An enclosed carrier is the way to go if your concern is having your car transported efficiently and safely. On the more economic end, open carriers are far better and work well as long as you don’t mind your car being exposed to road and weather conditions during transport. Depending on where you are planning to be when your car arrives, door to door shipping may be better than using terminals, but you may also have to pay a little bit more.

International Auto Transport from/to Tennessee

Varying legislation from one country to another complicates the international auto shipping process, especially for first timers. You’ll have to waste days trying to figure it out and risk paying out of your own pocket in case you make a mistake.

This is why most people hire an auto transport company for such projects. They are far more experience, so they can get past customs efficiently. They can also advise you about factors you may not be aware of.

For example, the import tax in some countries can be as high the price of the car you’re trying to ship. To avoid such problems, call our office today.

Cheap Car Transportation Options in Tennessee

Some standard factors which affect shipping costs include modifications, the car's weight and size, and the time frame you require for its delivery.

To lower costs, schedule your shipment on a date that’s not during peak season. In colder weather, less people attempt to move their vehicles, so our company gives seasonal offerings to encourage them.

Request an open carrier, since the price of using one is lower compared to enclosed trucks. Also ask if there are terminals nearby and if you qualify for a discount.

Our company has an extensive terminal system you can take advantage of. This way, you’ll avoid the pricier door to door option. Explain your situation to our personnel, and they’ll present you with an optimal solution.

Shipping Luxury and Classic Cars in Tennessee

Shipping a luxury, classic, exotic, or antique car to or from Tennessee can be as easy as shipping any other, though you may want to take a few extra precautions. Some luxury vehicles have low ground clearance levels, so you’ll need a truck that won’t damage them when they’re picked up. You may also want to preserve the paint of your classic or antique automobiles, so we advise you avoid open carriers.

To prevent problems caused by unpredictable road and weather conditions, we recommend enclosed carriers instead. Such carriers are designed to easily lift low ground clearance automobiles, and our staff is trained to handle valuable vehicles. The insurance limit on such transports is also higher, so in case of an accident, you’ll be covered.

Tennessee Special Discounts

A1 Auto Transport offers special discounts to its senior citizens for all its auto transport services. They apply to students and military members as well. Remember to mention your age and/or occupation when asking for a quote. Thanks to our seasonal offerings, you can further reduce your transportation costs. These are available to all our customers, not just the above mentioned groups.

Auto Transport Safety Measures in Tennessee

Auto carriers are created with safety as one of the main concerns. They allow each vehicle to be strapped in place, making movement during transport impossible. Against outside elements, they offer various levels of protection. Open carriers have beams and bars keeping pebbles and flying objects away, while enclosed trucks completely cover the cargo.

To reduce threats along the way, our drivers mostly use our previously tested routes. If a shipment requires them to visit a remote part of the country, they will verify the area and plan ahead to reduce risks.

Tennessee Vehicle Registration

To register your car in Tennessee, you will have to pay some registration fees, provide a statement for the odometer disclosure (when necessary), residency and identity proof, and your title. If you need more time to prepare the documentation, you can apply for a temporary permit. Depending on the county you live in, you may have to do an emissions inspection as well.

Registering all automobiles on the highways and public roads of Tennessee is required by the DOR. You can register your vehicle and obtain a title at the same time through just 1 process.

New Tennessee Residents

Depending on the county you reside in, you may have to get an emissions test before you can title and register your car. To title and register a vehicle, you must go to the clerk’s office in your local county. Prepare the following:

  • Emissions test documents if necessary;
  • The most recent or current registration in another state;
  • Title from another state;
    • If you’ve bought the vehicle through a lienholder, prepare his address and name as well.
  • Identification proof: Military ID, birth certificate, driver’s license, etc.
  • Residency proof: paycheck stub, utility bill, mortgage or rental agreement, etc.
  • Necessary fees.

Auto Insurance in Tennessee

You don’t need to insure your company to register it if it’s your first time. But, you will need it to drive legally. If you get in an accident or are pulled over and you cannot give an insurance proof, your license will be suspended. You may also receive a STOP on the driving record, impeding you from renewing a registration or registering a new vehicle. Before you may renew a registration, you have to remove the STOP at the county clerk in your local area.

Tennessee Vehicle Registration

Regardless if you’ve bought the automobile from a private seller or a dealership, you must go in person to the clerk’s office in the local county. There, you must present the following:

  • The origin certificate from the manufacturer. When you buy the car, the dealership will give you this form.
  • The dealership will also give you an invoice for the new car.
  • If you wish to transfer the license plates from an old car to your new one, give the old car’s registration to your county clerk.
  • Identification proof: Military id, birth certificate, driver’s license, etc.
  • Residency proof: Paycheck stub, utility bill, mortgage or rental agreement, etc.
  • Applicable taxes and fees must be paid.

You can get a list of residency and identity documents you can use as reference from the revenue department in Tennessee.

Used Automobile Registration

Go to the clerk’s office and present the following:

  • A completed title certificate;
  • F1317001 RV Form if your car is 10 years or younger.
  • If you want to transfer your old license plates, present the current registration.
  • Identification proof: military ID, birth certificate, driver’s license, etc.
  • Residency proof: paycheck stub, utility bill, mortgage or rental agreement, etc.
  • Registration taxes and fees must be paid.

Permit for Temporary Operation

You can apply for a temporary permit if you lack the necessary titling and registration paperwork. These can be used for up to 30 days.

The following are necessary to apply:

  • Your car’s ownership paperwork;
  • Proof that you’ve taken actions to fix the registration/titling problems;
  • A driver’s license gained in Tennessee;
  • F1314401 RV Form;
  • The $10 fee must be paid.

Contact a DOR office or the local county if you need more information. If your car inspection failed, you’re not eligible for receiving a temporary permit.

Car Registration for Military Personnel

If you are part of the military, registering your car may be a different process depending on whether you are a Tennessee resident or not, and on whether you serve inside or outside the state.

Tennessee stationed non-residents

You don’t have to register your car in Tennessee if your home state is another, but only if you keep the insurance and registration up to date in your home state. If you insist on registering your car in Tennessee, go to the clerk’s office in the county where you’re stationed.

Residents of Tennessee serving in the military

If you serve in TN and are also a resident, the same process explained above applies to you. If you’re stationed in another state at the moment, use mail to register the car. The documentation should be sent to a clerk’s office in Tennessee.

New Automobile Registration

Go to the clerk’s office in your county with the following:

  • An origin statement from the manufacturer which includes an odometer reader. The dealership should handle this.
  • An itemized sale bill.
  • Documents and agreements from the lienholder, if the car was bought with a loan.
  • Emissions test proof. This is only applicable in counties in which emissions tests are required.
  • Statement of Earnings and Leave.
  • Military orders.
  • Your mailing address.
  • Your telephone number.
  • You must pay the required registration taxes.
  • Fees differ depending on the county. To see what fees you must pay, speak to the clerk’s office in the county in which you will register the vehicle.

Used Automobile Registration

To register a used automobile, you will have to go to the clerk’s office with the following:

  • The last car title from the vehicle’s seller.
  • This must contain the odometer reading.
  • If the title comes without an odometer disclosure, you must prepare a F1317001 RV Form.
  • If the title’s back is full, an extension for your title will be needed.
  • Documents and agreements from the lienholder, if the car was bought with a loan.
  • Emmissions test documentation, if the county requires it.
  • Check the county’s requirements before proceeding with the registration.
  • A statement for your earnings and leave.
  • Military orders proving your station assignment.
  • Your mailing address.
  • The telephone number you use during the day.
  • You will have to pay all the necessary fees.
  • You can inquire what these fees will be at the clerk’s office in your county. These may differ depending on the county, so make sure to check first.

Fees for Registering an Automobile

Registration and title fees are standard in Tennessee. Depending on the county you’ll register in, you will also have a few local taxes to pay. These costs can be determined by calling the clerk’s office in said county.

Tennessee Automobile Emissions Inspection

An emissions inspection may be necessary prior to the car registration. You will have to go through an emissions test if you register in the following Tennessee counties:

  • Hamilton
  • Davidson
  • Williamson
  • Rutherford
  • Wilson

To complete the test, you must register and title your car. The fee is $9 and it has to be paid in bills of $20 or less.

Lost Registration

You can ask for a duplicate of your old registration if it’s been damaged or lost. It can be obtained at the clerk’s office in person or through mail. In both cases, you will need the following:

  • Your vehicle’s license plates number.
  • The VIN.
  • A fee of $3.

If you have a commercial or antique car that needs certification when registering it, the extra fee will be a maximum of $3.

License Plates in Tennessee

You can request several license plate types in Tennessee, including specialty, vanity and standard. You can obtain them from the clerk’s office in your county after your vehicle’s registration. There may be cases where the specialty or vanity plates you want are not available. If that is the case, you’ll have to order and wait for it to arrive.

It’s my number one pick in auto shipping to this day.

Due to the nature of my work, I must relocate every couple of years to where my company needs me. Because of this, I’ve tested several moving and auto transport companies over the years.

And my choice in terms of auto transport has to be A1 Auto Transport. It’s in the name, but also in the quality with which they do their jobs. I’ve never had a problem with this company.

The only time my shipment was delayed was during winter when a snowstorm closed down all the major roads. And they still found an alternative and got my car delivered before roads got unstuck.

When I moved to West Virginia, they picked up my car the very day I called them. I like to think they take special care of me considering all the business I’ve sent them. I’ll continue to support A1 Auto Transport. It’s my number one pick in auto shipping to this day.

Luis Rodriguez
You have my full support and recommendation!

I considered selling my car when I moved to Washington. It was old and rusty, but I grew attached to it. So, I called a couple companies to transport it to my new home, but they both fell through.

The first one couldn’t decide on a schedule. He would constantly change the pickup date till I got frustrated and canceled. The second was insufferable, very rude on the phone, even worse in person.

They started picking a part my car asking me why I still have it. If that’s their opinion of my vehicle, how can I trust they’ll take care of it? If something happened midway, why wouldn’t they just blame it on the car instead of paying up?

So, I cancelled this company as well and turned to A1 Auto Transport. From the get go, they were very different from my past options. Their website was very professional and up to date, full of useful information. I requested a quote using their online form, and I got an email response within an hour. Surprisingly fast!

If I didn’t know any better, I would’ve thought they were lacking customers, but the email spoke for itself. In just one email, everything I needed to know was there, including a contact number I could use to get more information or confirm the transport.

I called and got things rolling. I was very pleased with the driver. He followed standard procedure and represented his company well. Can’t remember his name, but props to him!

The car arrived in Washington 6 days later in excellent condition. From what I understand, the transport was delayed a bit by a storm, but since the time window was 4-6 days from the beginning, I don’t really care. You have my full support and recommendation!

I can safely say this is a legit company that will get the job done.

There are a lot of options for auto transport these days, which surprisingly makes it harder to find a good company. I received more than 10 offers to ship my car, but I couldn’t decide on any of them.

After doing some research, I got even more worried reading about all the scams and accidents that can happen. But, I have work to do and couldn’t afford to drive my newly purchased Mini Cooper all the way to Virginia.

Fortunately, I made the right choice with A1 Auto Transport. They are very good at their jobs. I spent more than an hour drilling Joe with various questions, and he never once lost his patience. He saw I was interested, so he bore with me until I was satisfied. The driver was also very courteous and my car was intact on arrival. I couldn’t have asked for more.

By the way, the price we first agreed on stayed the same. There were no delays or unexpected “surprises.” I can safely say this is a legit company that will get the job done.

We give A1 Auto Transport a big 10 out of 10!

We give A1 Auto Transport a big 10 out of 10! We chose them to move our car from California to Vermont, since we needed professionals.

We were abroad during the transport, so the transport was a bit tricky. The driver had to pick it up from storage on short notice and get it to its destination within at most 10 days. I was happy to note it arrived sooner. We got it 3 days early, right when we got home to pick it up. It made getting around way easier. Awesome service!
