The Process Of Registering A Vehicle In Norway
These are the basic steps to take to register an imported vehicle in Norway. There may be some slight variance based on the specific type of vehicle and how long you plan to stay in the country, but the process is basically the same.
After clearing your vehicle through customs, you’ll have to take it to a local traffic center where it will be given a roadworthiness test. This is to ensure that the vehicle is in good working order, has all the required safety measures, and that it meets emissions standards. Once the vehicle has passed the roadworthiness test, you pay a one-time vehicle tax and then you’re ready to submit the paperwork and finish the process.
There are some restrictions on vehicles that are imported into Norway from the U.S. and it’s important to understand those limitations before you get started. The main issue you’ll come up against is that you’ll to have a certificate of conformity that shows your vehicle is approved to drive on Norwegian roads.
Generally speaking, the technical requirements in Norway are the same as those established by the European Union. Most restrictions that would apply to U.S. vehicles shipped to Norway revolve around either engine size or emission standards—make sure you know if this is an issue before considering shipping to any foreign country!
