Auto Transport Tips
Choosing an auto transport company can be a difficult thing to do especially if you’ve never had to sue auto shipping before. A-1 Auto has the knowledge and experience in the auto transport industry to show you how you can determine which company will be best for you. We hope these tips will assist you in your search:
- Broker or Carrier - Before anything, you need to know the difference between a broker and a carrier. A broker is a company that will take your transport request and essentially pass it on, for a fee, to a carrier. They don’t usually handle the actual transport themselves unless they are a broker/carrier company. A carrier, on the other hand, will take your auto transport request, schedule the transport pick-up date and they will be the company that actually transports the car. A broker won’t typically be able to give you a guaranteed date of pick-up, while a carrier will be able to do so. Also, a broker will generally charge a non-refundable deposit, whereas a carrier may charge a deposit but it may be refundable if the transport needs to be canceled.
- The Lowest Price is Not Always the Best Price - As you begin to compare prices you will notice that while there may be a slight variance in price, for the most part, the companies you speak to will have similar pricing that is within around the same dollar amount. There are companies however, that will give you a quote that is drastically lower than anyone else’s price. That sounds great, especially when you want to save money as most people do. Unfortunately, companies that give low prices like that will also provide sub-par services. They may use unlicensed, unregistered drivers, have no insurance and be very slow with pick-up or delivery. Choose wisely and never base the decision just on the price.
- Be Realistic with Time - It would be great to have a car moved from Florida to California in a two-day time span, but unless you’re flying it in your own private plane, it just isn’t going to happen that way at all. Generally, you will be looking at several days, or even a week or more before the carrier can pick the car up. After that, it can take up to two weeks for delivery because of driving regulations, traffic and weather, If a company tells you they can have the car delivered within a couple days on a coast to coast relocation, hang up and move on to someone else.
