How To Ship Your Tesla?

Test driving that new Tesla at the dealership might have seemed interesting, but moving the brand-new car cross country is much more taxing than it sounds. Car shifting is getting it home conveniently, but not before dealing with the minor issue of choosing a reliable firm for your prized possession. Regardless of age, almost everyone has an emotional relationship with their vehicle, and handing it over to just anyone to deliver is out of the question. Luckily, our agency can always do the dirty work and get the vehicle safely to its destination.

We are one of the most experienced companies in the market, with staff who have handled thousands of shipments across the country over the years. Even then, we treat every order and vehicle with the respect and level of detail it deserves. We believe apart from having their vehicle shipped safely home, every individual has their own unique needs. In meeting these needs, our company stands out from the competition. Our biggest priorities are excellent service delivery and customer service.

We offer an extensive pre-moving consultation. Before the actual car relocating begins, we will always give our best in terms of advice and information to the client so that they have everything they need to make an informed decision. There are many points of consideration for any typical carrying experience. We will go through everything with the client, answering any questions that might arise and offering expert advice every step of the way. For overseas shipments, we take care of everything for the client, and all they have to do is wait for their vehicle to be picked up. We handle the customs paperwork, the loading, the unloading, and storage as per the client's requests.

One of the biggest worries, whether one is making local or international shipments, is what happens in case their vehicle is damaged. While this is highly unlikely regardless of the delivery option chosen, in the unfortunate event of damage to one’s car, all vehicles hauled by us are fully insured, with no deductibles on the client's part. The vehicle will be fully insured whether the carrier is open or closed. We are always open to showing proof of our insurance and the level of liability our corporation takes on. However, we encourage customers to inform us of everything regarding the state of the vehicle beforehand

Our shipments vary in price and time depending on the distance between pickup and destination. Here are some of our average shipment durations;

  • 2500-3000 miles takes between 6 and 7 days
  • 200-2500 miles takes 5 or 6 days
  • 1500-2000 miles takes 4 to 5 days
  • 1000-1500 miles takes between 3 and 4 days
  • 500-1000 miles takes 2 to 3 days
  • 100-500 miles takes between 1 and 2 days

Throughout the journey, we maintain constant communication with our clients, giving timely answers and updates on the state and progress of their shipments.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you ship a Tesla safely across the country?

Tesla vehicles are shipped using open or enclosed carriers, depending on protection needs. Most Tesla owners choose enclosed transport for added protection of paint, sensors, and cameras during long hauls. Carriers follow FMCSA regulations and use soft tie-downs to avoid damage to the frame or battery components. For premium protection, consider enclosed auto transport when shipping high-value models like Model S or Model X across long distances.

Can you ship a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y on an open carrier?

Yes, Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles are commonly shipped on open carriers, which are safe and widely used across the U.S. About 90% of vehicles, including Teslas, are transported this way. However, exposure to weather and road debris is possible. Owners of newer or higher-value vehicles may prefer enclosed options. The choice depends on budget, distance, and protection preference, not vehicle compatibility.

How much does it cost to ship a Tesla?

Shipping a Tesla typically costs between $600 and $1,500 for standard routes, with cross-country shipments reaching $1,200 to $2,000. Pricing depends on distance, vehicle model (Model 3 vs Model X), carrier type, and seasonality. Electric vehicles can cost slightly more due to handling considerations and weight. For accurate pricing breakdowns and current rate trends, review the car shipping cost guide.

Is door-to-door Tesla transport available nationwide?

Yes, Tesla vehicles can be shipped using door-to-door transport service in most U.S. locations. This means the carrier picks up and delivers your Tesla as close as legally and safely possible to your address. Factors like narrow streets, HOA restrictions, or urban congestion may require nearby meeting points. Learn how delivery works through door-to-door auto transport, which is the most popular option for convenience.

Are Tesla charging levels important before shipping?

Yes, Tesla vehicles should be shipped with a battery charge of around 20% to 50%. This ensures safe loading and unloading without unnecessary weight or risk. Fully charged batteries are discouraged because EVs are heavier than gas vehicles, impacting carrier weight limits. Carriers do not use Tesla charging stations during transit, so proper preparation before pickup is essential for smooth handling.

Do Tesla vehicles require special transport handling?

Tesla vehicles require careful handling due to their low ground clearance, battery placement, and advanced electronics. Carriers use specialized loading techniques and avoid improper tie-down points to protect the battery system. While Teslas don’t need drastically different shipping methods, experienced carriers familiar with EVs reduce risks. For EV-specific handling practices, see electric car shipping, which outlines best practices for transporting electric vehicles safely.
