When exporting a vehicle to Luxembourg, certain requirements and specifications must be met in order for a successful transaction to occur. As is commonplace with shipments to any other country, there is paperwork to be filled out, documents to send in, and fees to be taken care of. For more information regarding the costs acquired by shipping a car overseas, be sure to thoroughly read this article on the matter.

It is also important to take into account the weather conditions of the country. Luxembourg has a climate that is relatively standard and average in comparison to most countries. The summers can get quite warm, but generally, they are not terribly humid or uncomfortable. The winters are surprisingly rather mild, as temperatures rarely drop anywhere near freezing levels. January and February are often cited as the coldest and harshest months of the year, so it would be best to try and avoid shipping any goods during those months.

As always, it would be beneficial to gain knowledge regarding the weather patterns of the country to understand any shipping delays that may occur. Even with the cold that the months of January and February bring, it is still feasible to travel and import goods year-round to Luxembourg.

It is easy to navigate through and have positive relations with such a storied and developed country as Luxembourg. It is a predominately rural country, which makes driving and transportation somewhat easier and certainly much less hectic than most bustling European capitals can be.

Luxembourg has always benefitted from its independent spirit. Their customs and laws regarding moving and shipping into the country have strengthened and become more efficient in recent years.

Necessary Steps To Take Before Transporting Your Car

In preparing to ship a vehicle to Luxembourg, certain paperwork must be taken care of.

Required Documents For Shipping A Vehicle To Luxembourg

  1. Registration from country of origin.
  2. Vehicle purchase invoice.
  3. Title.
  4. Passport.
  5. Proof of ownership.
  6. Residence permit.
  7. Customs declaration.
  8. Bill of lading or AWB.
  9. Proof of insurance.
  10. Residency certificate.
  11. Confirmation of employment or diplomat status (from Ministry of Foreign Affairs)

Visit the Luxembourg Customs Page for more information regarding this matter. Be sure to reference this page to better understand any limitations and/or restrictions you may face upon moving or transporting goods such as automobiles to Luxembourg.

Keep in mind that banks in the country of Luxembourg are closed and both Saturdays as well as Sundays.

Any external or non-permanent parts of your automobile should be removed prior to shipment, as they may cause problems during a long delivery process. Many companies will also ask you to completely clean out the inside of the vehicle; this is especially true if you choose to use a RoRo transport service (more on that soon).

Furthermore, be sure to steam-clean the inside of your vehicle prior to departure so that your vehicle will not be quarantined before being shipped. This will speed up the delivery process, as the shipping company you choose will not have to move your vehicle to a quarantine facility, a cleaning facility, and back to the shipping facility. Bypassing these lengthy procedures will ensure a faster delivery process, and provide a smaller chance of damage to your vehicle.

Be sure to remove all air-conditioning gases from your vehicle as well.

If you are unsure about the eligibility of your vehicle’s shipping status, refer to Title 19 of the U.S. Code Of Federal Regulations.

Automobile Transportation Methods To Luxembourg

  • Roll On/Roll Off (Ro-Ro) Shipping: This is the most common method of transportation that the majority of customers choose to transport their vehicles. This is a method of sea shipping where vehicles are driven on and off carrier ships using their own wheels. Ro-Ro sea vessels are equipped with ramps that aid in the process of driving vehicles on and off the ship. Essentially, it is a method of shipping that is best for any item that has wheels or can be safely placed on and off wheels. It is the most convenient and cost-effective way of getting your vehicle to Luxembourg.
  • Container Car Shipping: This is a popular shipping method choice for those who want to send some of their personal items along with their cars to Luxembourg. The vehicle is either collected at one’s home or is delivered to a depot. Depending on whichever price point is more desirable, customers can choose private containers, which usually run 20ft or 40ft in size, and use the leftover space to pack personal items in, or customers may choose to share containers with someone else’s vehicle. This is a slightly more expensive method, as more safety checkpoints and procedures must be met.
  • Car Transportation: This is a land-based and land-locked method of shipping, so it generally takes the greatest amount of time. Cars are insured and routinely inspected throughout the trip, but they must wait for a pending shipping date to Luxembourg before they begin their journey.

Keep in mind, the vehicle must somehow be transported to a U.S. shipping port before it can begin preparations for shipment to another country like Luxembourg. In certain cases, you may be allowed to drive your vehicle to a local port; this will help you cut back on any further expenses.

Upon Arrival In Luxembourg

Once you arrive at your final destination, there are certain procedures that need to be taken care of regarding the safe arrival of your vehicle into the country.

  • Pay the appropriate customs duty as well as all taxes and fees associated with the shipment.
  • Have modifications applied and tested if necessary.
  • Apply for identification plate registration and approval with the government.

Once you arrive, it would certainly be in your favor to acquire more information regarding driving rules and regulations in Luxembourg.

  • Driving in Luxembourg: You’ll want to know what the traffic and driving rules of Luxembourg are as quickly as possible. The roads, signs, and highways of Luxembourg are modern and well maintained. Luxembourg is unique in that sometimes traffic fines can be applied on the spot so be sure to have cash on you to pay any unprecedented fines.

Any further questions and concerns you may have can be directed to the U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg.

Shipping Of Heavy Equipment & Oversized Cargo To Luxembourg

When shipping heavy equipment and oversized cargo from the U.S. to Luxembourg there are a myriad of factors to consider. Import/export policies, tariffs and cargo vessels all play a part in the decision making process.  There are several companies to consider when shipping to Luxembourg but it’s best to go with one that has experience shipping a wide array of heavy and oversized freight overseas.  At A-1, we can ship pretty much anything and if not, we’re able to direct you to someone who can.  In recent months A-1 Auto has shipped the following the cargo:

Agricultural                           Mining                                  Construction

Tractors                                  Loaders                                 Bulldozers

Balers                                     Excavators                            Forklifts

Combine Harvesters              Haulers                                  Rockbreakers

Backhoes                                                                              Dumpers

Plows

Spreaders

Shipping Options with A-1

The overall dimensions of your cargo along with the weight of it will play a large role into the price and type of vessel that will be used.  For oversized cargo and some types of heavy equipment, the following transport options are available.

  • LoLo Transport is a traditional form of shipping for inoperable cargo like boats, crated equipment, machinery and industrial supplies.  Freight is lifted onto the vessel either by a crane operated on the ship or by a dock operator.  A little more expensive than RoRo and container shipping due to the extra attention required.
  • RoRo Transport is the simplest, most cost effective way of shipping large vehicles, heavy trucks or anything operable and able to move up and down a ramp.  Stored within the hull of the cargo vessel vehicles are driven into a height restricted hull on the side of the ship.  The ease of this shipping  process and minimal resources involved pay a big part into the relatively lower price.
  • Flat Rack Shipping is a versatile method in getting a wide range of sized, heavy equipment overseas.  As either a flat rack or a framed shipping container (with open walls), it can handle most unique shipping needs.
  • Container Shipping isn’t usually applicable for oversized cargo due to the size constraints of the container.  Some heavy equipment may be shipped via this method as it does provide the most protection from the elements albeit being the most cost prohibitive.  Check whether your cargo will fit within a 40 foot shipping container.

It’s my number one pick in auto shipping to this day.
★★★★★

Due to the nature of my work, I must relocate every couple of years to where my company needs me. Because of this, I’ve tested several moving and auto transport companies over the years.

And my choice in terms of auto transport has to be A1 Auto Transport. It’s in the name, but also in the quality with which they do their jobs. I’ve never had a problem with this company.

The only time my shipment was delayed was during winter when a snowstorm closed down all the major roads. And they still found an alternative and got my car delivered before roads got unstuck.

When I moved to West Virginia, they picked up my car the very day I called them. I like to think they take special care of me considering all the business I’ve sent them. I’ll continue to support A1 Auto Transport. It’s my number one pick in auto shipping to this day.

I considered selling my car when I moved to Washington. It was old and rusty, but I grew attached to it. So, I called a couple companies to transport it to my new home, but they both fell through.

The first one couldn’t decide on a schedule. He would constantly change the pickup date till I got frustrated and canceled. The second was insufferable, very rude on the phone, even worse in person.

They started picking a part my car asking me why I still have it. If that’s their opinion of my vehicle, how can I trust they’ll take care of it? If something happened midway, why wouldn’t they just blame it on the car instead of paying up?

So, I cancelled this company as well and turned to A1 Auto Transport. From the get go, they were very different from my past options. Their website was very professional and up to date, full of useful information. I requested a quote using their online form, and I got an email response within an hour. Surprisingly fast!

If I didn’t know any better, I would’ve thought they were lacking customers, but the email spoke for itself. In just one email, everything I needed to know was there, including a contact number I could use to get more information or confirm the transport.

I called and got things rolling. I was very pleased with the driver. He followed standard procedure and represented his company well. Can’t remember his name, but props to him!

The car arrived in Washington 6 days later in excellent condition. From what I understand, the transport was delayed a bit by a storm, but since the time window was 4-6 days from the beginning, I don’t really care. You have my full support and recommendation!

I can safely say this is a legit company that will get the job done.

There are a lot of options for auto transport these days, which surprisingly makes it harder to find a good company. I received more than 10 offers to ship my car, but I couldn’t decide on any of them.

After doing some research, I got even more worried reading about all the scams and accidents that can happen. But, I have work to do and couldn’t afford to drive my newly purchased Mini Cooper all the way to Virginia.

Fortunately, I made the right choice with A1 Auto Transport. They are very good at their jobs. I spent more than an hour drilling Joe with various questions, and he never once lost his patience. He saw I was interested, so he bore with me until I was satisfied. The driver was also very courteous and my car was intact on arrival. I couldn’t have asked for more.

By the way, the price we first agreed on stayed the same. There were no delays or unexpected “surprises.” I can safely say this is a legit company that will get the job done.

We give A1 Auto Transport a big 10 out of 10!

We give A1 Auto Transport a big 10 out of 10! We chose them to move our car from California to Vermont, since we needed professionals.

We were abroad during the transport, so the transport was a bit tricky. The driver had to pick it up from storage on short notice and get it to its destination within at most 10 days. I was happy to note it arrived sooner. We got it 3 days early, right when we got home to pick it up. It made getting around way easier. Awesome service!
