The Requirements for Vehicle Shipment.
Shipping a car has a long list of must-haves. Most of these requests are straightforward, and transporting sedans is a real option. The necessary information and forms are detailed below. The best course of action is to get in touch with the Mexican Embassy, as regulations in this area are subject to change.
Regulations.
- The vehicle must be at least 5 years of age.
- The transport must be below a 10-passenger vehicle.
- The value of the automobile must not exceed $12,000.
- There must be a catalytic converter in the coupe.
- It has to have a gasoline engine.
- The conveyance must have been purchased in Canada or the U.S.
Documentation.
- Original transport title and two copies.
- A Shippers Export Declaration (SED)- obtained from U.S. Customs.
- Pedimento- obtained from Mexican Customs.
- License, passport, picture ID, registered voter's license, visa—two forms of ID are needed.
Dispatching Methods.
There are two main shipping forms, which are sufficient ways to export a vehicle. It really comes down to preference and budget.
While not all ports accept the RO/RO delivery method, it is always a cheaper option. RO/RO transporting requires the vehicle to drive onto and off of the delivery without anything in it. The only exceptions are a car jack, a spare tire, and floor mats.
Container shipment allows a person to ship other property as well. This property can be kept in the automobile or even in the container. Containers can be shared with another individual which will help cut the cost.
