Frequently Asked Questions
What are Mecum car auctions and how do they work?
Mecum car auctions are large public auto auctions specializing in classic, muscle, and collector vehicles. Buyers can register to bid in person, online, or by phone, while sellers consign vehicles ahead of scheduled events. Each car is auctioned live with no reserve in many cases, meaning it sells to the highest bidder. After purchase, buyers must arrange payment and vehicle pickup or shipping through a reliable car transportation services provider.
Where is the Mecum Kissimmee auction held and why is it popular?
Mecum Kissimmee takes place annually in Kissimmee, Florida, and is one of the largest collector car auctions in the world. It attracts thousands of vehicles and bidders due to strong winter demand, favorable weather, and high inventory volume. Many rare and high-value cars are sold here, making it a key event for collectors. Florida’s easy highway access and proximity to major ports also simplify vehicle pickup and transport logistics.
How much does it cost to buy a car at Mecum auctions?
The total cost includes the winning bid plus a buyer’s premium, typically 10% of the sale price, along with taxes and transport. Vehicles range widely from $10,000 to over $1 million, depending on rarity and condition. Additional expenses like shipping and insurance should be planned in advance. Reviewing a detailed car shipping rates breakdown helps buyers budget accurately after auction purchase.
Are Mecum auction vehicles inspected or guaranteed?
Mecum vehicles are generally sold “as is,” meaning there is no warranty or guarantee unless specifically stated by the seller. Buyers should review vehicle descriptions, condition reports, and photos carefully before bidding. On-site inspections are encouraged, and many experienced bidders hire third-party inspectors. According to standard auction practices, due diligence is essential since final sales are binding once the hammer falls.
How do I ship a car after buying from Mecum auto auctions?
After purchase, you can arrange transport through a licensed carrier or broker. Most buyers choose door-to-door service for convenience, especially when shipping from large venues like Kissimmee. Transit times typically range from 2–7 days regionally or 7–10 days cross-country. Factors like distance, carrier availability, and vehicle type affect delivery speed. Using a door-to-door auto transport option simplifies pickup directly from the auction site.
When is the Mecum auction schedule released each year?
The Mecum auction schedule is typically released several months in advance, outlining major events across the U.S., including Kissimmee, Indianapolis, and Monterey. High-volume events like Kissimmee often occur in January, while others are spread throughout the year. Checking the schedule early helps buyers plan travel, bidding strategy, and vehicle transport. Peak seasons can impact shipping demand, so booking transport early ensures better pricing and availability.
