Situated on Baltic coast, this polish city is capital of the principal seaport in Pomeranian Voivodeship. It is also the fourth largest metropolitan region. Its location is on mouth of Motlawa River with connection to Leniwka, a delta of Vistula River. This waterway supplies 60% area of the country besides connecting Gdansk to Warsaw. Because of this reason, the city is the focal point of sea trade in the country.
It is best to commute easily and enjoy driving around the city and in the Greater Metropolis region by importing your vehicle from US to Gdansk in Poland. Just fill in the associated paperwork, pay the required fee, and adhere to necessary regulations for ease of importing your vehicle. The weather condition is a prominent factor that will affect your shipping decision. Summer being comparatively mild is the best time for shipping.
You have the option of choosing any one of the two available shipping methods, namely container shipping and RORO method. If you select container shipping, a crane will place your car inside the container of 20 feet or 40 feet, as you need it. You can also keep other household goods and personal items to send to Gdansk inside the container, along with the vehicle. This is a comparatively expensive method than RORO.
However, if you have a fixed budget and just need the vehicle shipped, the vehicle will be driven on and is secured on the deck for the entire length of the journey. Once it reaches the port of Gdansk, it will be driven down the ramp. This is the cheaper choice as you only pay for parking the vehicle, but you are allowed to keep minimum fuel in the tank and remove the air conditioning gas. Additionally, as per law, you cannot keep anything inside the vehicle. Non-adherence to the Polish custom department rules will lead to delay in delivery and even quarantine if the vehicle is not cleaned before dispatch from USA.
Documents and paperwork.
The legalities associated with the entry of your vehicle in Gdansk involve submission of documents and their verifications. You will need to provide the lading bill, driving license and passport of owner, title deed, work or resident permit, and purchase invoice containing vehicle details. The taxes and the levies associated the vehicle import are same as other parts of the Europe this is because Poland is a member of EU. Returning citizens and the diplomats enjoy duty-free import and tax exemption as the vehicle is part of household goods.
But if there are no exceptions, you will need to pay 10% import duty and 23% VAT. Border tax varies according to engine capacity. Thus, your vehicle will be inspected and checked before the border taxes are levied.
Some additional considerations.
Submit necessary documents with Polish custom department. You are required to give a declaration that you are the owner of the particular vehicle for more than six months in USA. For more information regarding current regulations, limitations, and eligibility, you should contact Embassy of Republic of Poland.
