Zimbabwe is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. It is an arduous task trying to get a vehicle shipped to the country considering that Southern Africa forbids vehicles newer than 25 years old to be shipped into Zimbabwe. Nonetheless, if vehicle shipping is something to consider, it will prove to be beneficial to anyone going to reside in the country for a while.

Zimbabwe isn't known to have efficient means of local travel. Roadways are in poor condition and public transit is scarce. If at all possible, having a personal vehicle shipped will make for easier travel within the country.

Shipping Methods

Shipping methods in regards to vehicle importation include air and sea when exporting from the United States. While Zimbabwe is a landlocked country, there are nearby ports that the vehicle can be shipped to. Just make sure that as the owner of the vehicle, a ride to the port is arranged ahead of time so that when the vehicle finally arrives, it is able to be retrieved.

The least popular method of vehicle shipping is by air. Air shipping is extremely costly and many people are unable to afford such importation. Regardless, it is an option that can be considered.

Container shipping is quite favorable and allows for other property to be shipped along with the vehicle. The vehicle can be filled with belongings and so can the rest of the container. Containers can be shared between people and this will help reduce the costs.

The roll on, roll off method of shipping will require the vehicle to be empty with the exception of floor mats, a car jack, and a spare tire. This is the cheapest method of importation, yet it doesn't allow for other belongings to be shipped.

More than likely, the vehicle will be shipped to the Port of Durban. This is Southern Africa's largest port. Make sure that a ride to the port is arranged at the time of arrival and that all duties and taxes are paid.

Required Documents For Shipping A Vehicle To Zimbabwe

  • Passport
  • Vehicle title
  • Import document (if owned for less than 6 months)
  • Registration certificate
  • Bill of lading
  • Change of residence certificate
  • Purchase invoice
  • Proof of insurance

Other documentation needed includes a Letter of Authority, an Import Permit, and a Customs Release Notification form. These can be obtained through SABS. If there are any further questions or concerns, contact the South African Embassy located in the United States.

Without all of the necessary documentation and duty and taxes paid, importation into South Africa will not be permitted. It is crucial that all facets are addressed and that all proper documentation required, is presented to Customs.

Types of Heavy Equipment We Can Transport Internationally

Some of the heavy equipment we have experience shipping outside of the U.S. includes but isn’t limited to...

  • Tractors, combines & other farm equipment
  • Backhoes and excavators
  • RVs and motorhomes
  • Industrial equipment
  • Bulldozers

  • Forklifts
  • Hydraulic equipment
  • Engines
  • Pile drivers
  • Pavers
  • Cranes
  • Large trucks & heavy vehicles
  • Engineering equipment
  • Agricultural equipment & machinery

The shipping services for heavy equipment are slightly higher since there are more risks involved with its delivery due to its larger size and weight. To see if your cargo is considered as oversized or heavy equipment, simply give us a call.

Methods of International Transport for Heavy Equipment

The methods of international transport for oversized and heavy equipment available to you through A1 will depend on the type of heavy equipment you’d like to have shipped to Zimbabwe. We will certainly help you make a decision as to what method is best for your future transport, however here is some information regarding the shipping services we have available…

  • The Lift On/Lift Off method of transport is a reasonably priced shipping service that requires the help of a crane. We will carefully secure your large inoperable vehicle or crated heavy equipment before allowing the crane to lift it onto or off of the boat.
  • The Roll On/Roll Off shipping method, also known as RoRo is the least expensive shipping service we offer. This is an open air shipping service that requires your vehicle to be operable. The large equipment will need to drive onto and off of the boat using a ramp.
  • The Flat Rack shipping method is offered to those with the desire for the utmost security. With this shipping method, your cargo is secured to an open rack or metal frame. It is then carefully placed on top of the water vessel.
  • Container shipping is perhaps the most expensive yet it isn’t available to all those looking for overseas heavy equipment shipping services. If your cargo can fit inside of a 40ft shipping container despite its heavier weight, than you may be eligible for this service.

It’s my number one pick in auto shipping to this day.

Due to the nature of my work, I must relocate every couple of years to where my company needs me. Because of this, I’ve tested several moving and auto transport companies over the years.

And my choice in terms of auto transport has to be A1 Auto Transport. It’s in the name, but also in the quality with which they do their jobs. I’ve never had a problem with this company.

The only time my shipment was delayed was during winter when a snowstorm closed down all the major roads. And they still found an alternative and got my car delivered before roads got unstuck.

When I moved to West Virginia, they picked up my car the very day I called them. I like to think they take special care of me considering all the business I’ve sent them. I’ll continue to support A1 Auto Transport. It’s my number one pick in auto shipping to this day.

You have my full support and recommendation!

I considered selling my car when I moved to Washington. It was old and rusty, but I grew attached to it. So, I called a couple companies to transport it to my new home, but they both fell through.

The first one couldn’t decide on a schedule. He would constantly change the pickup date till I got frustrated and canceled. The second was insufferable, very rude on the phone, even worse in person.

They started picking a part my car asking me why I still have it. If that’s their opinion of my vehicle, how can I trust they’ll take care of it? If something happened midway, why wouldn’t they just blame it on the car instead of paying up?

So, I cancelled this company as well and turned to A1 Auto Transport. From the get go, they were very different from my past options. Their website was very professional and up to date, full of useful information. I requested a quote using their online form, and I got an email response within an hour. Surprisingly fast!

If I didn’t know any better, I would’ve thought they were lacking customers, but the email spoke for itself. In just one email, everything I needed to know was there, including a contact number I could use to get more information or confirm the transport.

I called and got things rolling. I was very pleased with the driver. He followed standard procedure and represented his company well. Can’t remember his name, but props to him!

The car arrived in Washington 6 days later in excellent condition. From what I understand, the transport was delayed a bit by a storm, but since the time window was 4-6 days from the beginning, I don’t really care. You have my full support and recommendation!

I can safely say this is a legit company that will get the job done.

There are a lot of options for auto transport these days, which surprisingly makes it harder to find a good company. I received more than 10 offers to ship my car, but I couldn’t decide on any of them.

After doing some research, I got even more worried reading about all the scams and accidents that can happen. But, I have work to do and couldn’t afford to drive my newly purchased Mini Cooper all the way to Virginia.

Fortunately, I made the right choice with A1 Auto Transport. They are very good at their jobs. I spent more than an hour drilling Joe with various questions, and he never once lost his patience. He saw I was interested, so he bore with me until I was satisfied. The driver was also very courteous and my car was intact on arrival. I couldn’t have asked for more.

By the way, the price we first agreed on stayed the same. There were no delays or unexpected “surprises.” I can safely say this is a legit company that will get the job done.

We give A1 Auto Transport a big 10 out of 10!

We give A1 Auto Transport a big 10 out of 10! We chose them to move our car from California to Vermont, since we needed professionals.

We were abroad during the transport, so the transport was a bit tricky. The driver had to pick it up from storage on short notice and get it to its destination within at most 10 days. I was happy to note it arrived sooner. We got it 3 days early, right when we got home to pick it up. It made getting around way easier. Awesome service!
