How to Move a Car to Medellin
When it’s time to move your car to Medellin you will first need to contact an auto transport agent to gather all of the details on how to ship and what it will cost to do so. A shipping agent will go over the details of what you need to do to prepare your car for international shipping as well as the mandatory documents you will need for the transport company as well as to have your car cleared through Customs in Columbia. You will need to provide the transporter documents such as your driver’s license, social security card, original car title and registration, car insurance certificate and will also need a signed Power of Attorney form if you will need the auto transport company to pick up or deliver the car to the exit port in the United States or at the entry port in Colombia. When you ship in a container, the car, as well as any household good that you may need to transport will be loaded into a container at the exit port in the U.S. and then transported via freight ship to the port. Customs Regulations in Medellin, Columbia

For a complete list of requirements, you can contact your auto transport agent or the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency. Unless you are a Diplomat, you can only import cars to Medellin that are new (less than one year old) and have zero mileage on them. Diplomats may import used cars. You will need to provide Customs with a Passport, Visa that is valid for at least one year, Emissions Certificate, Import Permit, identification card if you are a returning citizen of Colombia, original Title and Registration, and the Airway Bill (AB) or the Bill of Lading (BOL). You will also need to provide documentation to verify your Diplomatic status. This documentation will include a registration document that is issued by the Foreign Ministry, an Import Permit issued by the Icomex Institute, and a Diplomatic Permit issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Prior to moving your car to Medellin, Colombia you will need to obtain a full finalized quote from the auto transport company detailing all fees associated with shipping, car preparation if necessary, and pick up or delivery of that will be needed when shipping the car.
