How To Ship Your Tesla?

Test driving that new Tesla at the dealership might have seemed interesting, but moving the brand-new car cross country is much more taxing than it sounds. Car shifting is getting it home conveniently, but not before dealing with the minor issue of choosing a reliable firm for your prized possession. Regardless of age, almost everyone has an emotional relationship with their vehicle, and handing it over to just anyone to deliver is out of the question. Luckily, our agency can always do the dirty work and get the vehicle safely to its destination.

We are one of the most experienced companies in the market, with staff who have handled thousands of shipments across the country over the years. Even then, we treat every order and vehicle with the respect and level of detail it deserves. We believe apart from having their vehicle shipped safely home, every individual has their own unique needs. In meeting these needs, our company stands out from the competition. Our biggest priorities are excellent service delivery and customer service.

Dispatching Process

We offer an extensive pre-moving consultation. Before the actual car relocating begins, we will always give our best in terms of advice and information to the client so that they have everything they need to make an informed decision. There are many points of consideration for any typical carrying experience. We will go through everything with the client, answering any questions that might arise and offering expert advice every step of the way. For overseas shipments, we take care of everything for the client, and all they have to do is wait for their vehicle to be picked up. We handle the customs paperwork, the loading, the unloading, and storage as per the client's requests.

One of the biggest worries, whether one is making local or international shipments, is what happens in case their vehicle is damaged. While this is highly unlikely regardless of the delivery option chosen, in the unfortunate event of damage to one’s car, all vehicles hauled by us are fully insured, with no deductibles on the client's part. The vehicle will be fully insured whether the carrier is open or closed. We are always open to showing proof of our insurance and the level of liability our corporation takes on. However, we encourage customers to inform us of everything regarding the state of the vehicle beforehand

Our shipments vary in price and time depending on the distance between pickup and destination. Here are some of our average shipment durations;

  • 2500-3000 miles takes between 6 and 7 days
  • 200-2500 miles takes 5 or 6 days
  • 1500-2000 miles takes 4 to 5 days
  • 1000-1500 miles takes between 3 and 4 days
  • 500-1000 miles takes 2 to 3 days
  • 100-500 miles takes between 1 and 2 days

Throughout the journey, we maintain constant communication with our clients, giving timely answers and updates on the state and progress of their shipments.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you ship a Tesla safely across the country?

A Tesla can be shipped safely across the country on an open or enclosed carrier when the vehicle is inspected, loaded correctly, and secured using its model-specific transport guidance. Before pickup, remove loose personal items, provide a working key or key card, and photograph the exterior, glass, wheels, and existing marks. Open transport works for routine moves, while enclosed transport reduces exposure to rain and road debris when exterior protection matters more. At delivery, compare the Tesla with the pickup condition record before signing

How much does it cost to ship a Tesla?

As of August 7, 2026, open-carrier Tesla shipping commonly runs about $700-$1,200 for 500-1,000 miles, $1,000-$1,800 for 1,000-2,000 miles, and roughly $1,400-$2,300 cross-country. A1's car shipping rates guide explains the main pricing inputs. Larger Tesla models, enclosed transport, inoperability, remote pickup access, and peak demand can move a quote higher. These are planning ranges rather than fixed prices because the exact route and available trailer space still affect booking rates.

Can you ship a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y on an open carrier?

Yes, a Tesla Model 3 or Model Y can travel on an open carrier; enclosed transport is a protection choice rather than an EV compatibility requirement. Open transport is the lower-cost option for routine vehicle shipping, but the car remains exposed to rain, dust, and road debris. A1's enclosed auto transport reduces that exterior exposure and may suit a new car, custom wrap, special paint, or an owner who wants more protection. Choose based on protection level, route, and budget rather than the electric powertrain itself.

Are Tesla charging levels important before shipping?

Battery charge matters before Tesla transport, but Tesla's current Model Y transporter guidance does not specify a universal 20%-50% commercial-shipping target. Its battery guidance advises against leaving the battery near 0% or 100% for long periods and warns that reaching 0% can create charging and battery problems if the vehicle remains unplugged. Bring enough charge for loading, unloading, and short repositioning, then follow the assigned carrier's requested pickup level. Avoid handing over a nearly depleted Tesla.

Do Tesla vehicles require special transport handling?

Yes, Tesla vehicles need model-specific loading and securement steps when a carrier must winch or reposition them for transport. For the current Model Y, Tesla instructs transporters to use Tow Mode before winching and secure the tires with an eight-point tie-down method rather than attaching straps to the chassis, suspension, or body. Tesla also warns against pulling the vehicle by the chassis, frame, or suspension. A1's electric car shipping guide covers broader EV transport preparation, while the exact Tesla owner's manual should control model-specific handling.

Is a Tesla insured while it is being shipped?

Do not assume a Tesla is fully covered just because an interstate carrier has active FMCSA authority; verify the assigned carrier's cargo policy before pickup. FMCSA requires applicable financial-responsibility filings for operating authority, but its current chart lists a $0 federal cargo-insurance requirement for non-hazardous for-hire property carriers. The Licensing & Insurance system confirms authority and required filings, while the carrier's cargo certificate shows the coverage actually offered for your vehicle. Check the cargo limit, deductible, exclusions, and claims process in writing before the Tesla is loaded.

First time felt unsure
★★★★★

I was honestly scared of getting scammed since it was my first time shipping my Tesla and I didn’t really know how any of it worked. I requested a quote and got a call pretty quick, and they answered all my questions without rushing me. After booking, I got a text with the schedule and updates which helped a lot. The driver showed up right on time and handled everything carefully, so I felt like my car was in good hands the whole time.

Faster than I expected
★★★★★

I had been waiting on another company to ship my vehicle for weeks and nothing ever got scheduled. Once I switched, things actually started moving and I could keep track of what was going on. Pickup happened the next day and my Tesla made it across way faster than I expected. Paid a little more than I planned, but seeing it arrive in perfect condition made it worth it.
