The two popular methods of shipping cars are Roll on/Roll off and Container shipping. The only option available when shipping cars to or from Port of Nashville is container shipping. This is often the better alternative when shipping high-value cars overseas. The vehicles are hauled up by a crane and loaded onto a container. They are then be secured in position by use of nylon straps attached to the walls of the container. After your vehicle is fully in position, all the four tires will be braced with wood that is in turn nailed to the container’s floor. It’s clear as day that if you are looking to the get the biggest bang for your buck in terms of safety, container shipping is the right choice.
There are two main variations you can consider here: Full Container Load (FCL) or Less Than Container Load (LCL). In the case of FCL container shipping, you exclusively book the full container. As such, it need not be fully packed for it to be shipped. Your car may fill only a quarter or half the container yet it will still be transported as it is. While the booking costs will be on the higher side, you will considerably save on transit time seeing as there are less general handling and unforeseen delays.
As for LCL, you do not own exclusive rights to the whole container. You will book the container via a consolidator who will find other cars bound for the same destination as yours and ensure that he container is fully loaded before hitting the waters. It will be upon the consolidator to separate each shipment once you arrive at port of discharge. The tradeoff for LCL being cheaper is the amount of time needed to fill up the container.
