Questions You Should Ask Your Auto Transporter
Whether you are moving a car locally or all the way across the country, keep the following questions in mine when you are scheduling service:
- Is the company fully insured? - You most likely already have insurance coverage on your vehicle, but chances are that it will not cover the car during transport, especially if the car is being moved across the country. It is best to ask the company what their coverage amount is and make sure it is enough for your car. Ask to see the insurance certificate to verify that the coverage is valid.
- What form of payment does the company accept and when is it due? - Many companies will accept credit and debit cards as well as cash payments for auto transport. You need to check with your agent to see what forms they accept however because there are many companies that will only accept cash payments. You also need to make sure that all fees are paid on time whether they need to be paid in advance or on the day the car is picked up for transport.
- How should you prepare the car for transport? - When it comes to auto transport, the majority of companies will require the same preparation for the car prior to shipment. This includes having the car cleaned inside and out and removing all personal items. Also lower the fuel to no higher than a quarter tank and make sure the other vehicle fluids are appropriately filled to the correct levels with no leaks. When you speak to your personal agent you will want to see what they require in detail and be sure to follow the guidelines that the company requires when shipping a vehicle.
