Ever wondered about the best way to find a military friendly car shipping company to ship your POV? In this post we aim to unpack some of the mystery and show you how to do just that, what to look for and what questions you should ask.
Two Options: Government or Commercial
There are some circumstances under which the government will pay for a qualified POV to be shipped on your behalf. To find out if you qualify, you should first contact your sponsor or the appropriate transportation office.
For those who don’t qualify, you’ll need to arrange for a company to ship your vehicle, of which there are many options. That said, there are some companies that are better options than others. If an auto transport company does not specifically mention that they ship for the military on their website, that’s usually a sign that they don’t do it often. As you might imagine there are some fine points and details that need to be covered when shipping a POV for military members that don’t apply to civilian car shipping.
What Is A Military Friendly Car Shipping Company?
As mentioned in the paragraph above, one aspect of a company that caters to members of the armed services is that they ship POVs on a regular basis. If a shipper can’t answer your questions (see below), either with the information on their website or over the phone, that’s a bad sign.
A good auto transport company will understand the complexities and details that go into shipping a POV, including documents, preparations, how to minimize costs, and what laws and protocols need to be followed throughout the process.
Questions To Ask Military Car Shipping Companies
Do you offer discounts? Many companies offer discounts to military, which is often another sign that they regular ship vehicles on behalf of service members. There are also non-military discounts you may qualify for, so be sure to ask. To give you and idea, you can view our discounts page.
Which bases have you shipped to? This one is a great question that will often reveal if a company actually does what they claim to. If they are unfamiliar with which bases, regions, and locations are popular destinations, they probably aren’t shipping that many POVs. This is an especially good question if you’re shipping overseas.
What documents are needed? Military car shipping requires more than just the standard documentation required to transport a vehicle. While a shipper may not “speak the language,” they should be familiar with what’s involved, both from a military aspect and a legal one. As with the question above, this one is doubly important for overseas and OCONUS POV shipments.
