Auto Transport Tips
Once you have your car scheduled for auto transport with a good company, you will need to make sure you’re prepared and your car is ready to go when the carrier arrives to pick it up. A-1 Auto Transport has put together a few quick tips to help you make sure everything is ready to go:
- When a carrier is transporting cars, they can only carry a certain amount of weight based on the number of axles on the truck. The weight of a full load is based on the make and model of each car that the truck has on it. When you’re getting your car ready to ship, you need to make sure it’s emptied of any personal content or removable extras on the exterior, like large, heavy toolboxes. Not only can extra weight get a driver in trouble, but it can also add extra fees onto your overall auto transport bill.
- Don’t expect to have your car transported from California to Florida within just a couple of days. While a company will try to make sure the car is delivered on time, there are many things that can delay a delivery. Truck drivers are mandated by law to not drive over a certain number of hours. They are required to stop for breaks and they also must stop to refuel, go through truck inspections and follow all road rules. Typically from one coast to another, it will take a car no less than 7-10 days to arrive. If you’re expecting your car to arrive in 2-3 days, you will find that it just isn’t going to happen in that amount of time.
- Be sure that your car is cleaned inside and out. The fuel needs to be at around ¼ tank, the battery charged and the alarm, if you have one, needs to be disarmed before the car is loaded onto the carrier.
