The seventh largest city of Panama, Pacora is situated by the banks of the Pacora River. It is a popular spot for tourists looking for adventure sports and other cultural activities. Though being a river port, it is a hub of trade and commercial activities. It helps to work with an international shipper like A1 Auto Transport service, as we understand all aspects of the custom regulations in Panama. This helps us anticipate issues that may arise and resolve them beforehand. With plenty of ports in USA, we’ll help you select the nearest one so that the ‘door to port’ charges are negligible. The Port of Cristobal serve as the main point of freight shipping in Panama.
Taxes and duties in Panama.
Apart from the other import duties, there is a standard VAT charge of 7% on the CIF of the vehicle. CIF stands for cost of vehicle, insurance and freight charges for import. Additionally, you will need to factor in the cost of shipping and the method you select. If you ship by RORO, the cost will be lesser as you are only charged by the space occupied by your vehicle. The length and weight of the car is considered when you send the car by Roll-On/Roll-Off method. But if you are shipping it by Container shipping, the cost will naturally be higher as you are allowed to ship your personal items within the 20 feet or 40 feet container. You are charged for the personal container that you hire.
The difference also lies in the fact that when you ship by RORO, you have to ship an empty vehicle, devoid of air conditioning gas, personal items and all accessories. It is driven on and off the ship using its own set of wheels. But when you use container shipping method, you are allowed to ship your personal items along with the car with ease. The sealed container ensures that your vehicle is protected from the elements of nature during transit.
We will offer you a written quote so you are aware of the total cost before you start planning the shipment. Talk with A1 Auto Transport service to know more about the current charges and duties. You can refer to the eligibility criteria as listed in Title 19 of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, to ensure that your vehicle meets with the requisite terms.
It is essential to know that there are plenty of documents that need to be submitted for verification of the import procedures. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Panama government agencies will require them to be submitted for authorization at least a week before the vehicle is shipped out/arrives at the port. These include:
- Driver’s license.
- Title deed.
- Insurance policy.
Ensure that you are clear about all aspects of shipping policy costs and import duties before the vehicle shipping procedures start. You can contact the Embassy of Panama to get the answers to your queries.
