Shipping regulations and requirements
Besides the easy documentation process, you do not even have to pay any customs levies and taxes for the import. The road network is well maintained, adding to the pleasures of driving around both within the city and to other cities. However, it is important to understand the custom department requirements at the domestic US port and the port at Bahrain.
As far as the US regulations goes, before your vehicle is shipped, you will need to prepare and show certain vital documents associated with it. This includes the original title of your vehicle or the associated ownership proof. Do not forget to keep:
- Insurance certificate
- Consent for shipping under lien vehicles
- Bill of purchase and sales bill
- Bill of Lading
These documents will be needed as proof of origin and ownership and will need to be shown to the Bahrain Custom authorities on demand. Besides this, you will also need to do your homework regarding the import regulations in Bahrain thoroughly.
As it is easy for the U.S-origin vehicles to be imported, you have few chances of facing difficulties when all documentation is in order. However, cars older than 8 years are not allowed within the country. To enjoy quick clearance from the Customs Department of Bahrain, you will need to show:
- Custom declaration form
- Clearance certificate
- Insurance documents
- Owner’s identification card
- Vehicle license plate
- Delivery order
Once your car arrives at the port of Manama, make sure to be there to receive it. Alternatively, you may send a representative to collect it on your behalf. The car can be driven down to Muharraq after the custom clearance and other formalities have been completed.
Different shipping options are available at the port with the most popular one being RO-RO method, which is economical and hassle free. It is important to clear the vehicle of all personal belongings and only keep the spare set of keys and spare tire as per this method of freight shipping.
For antique or expensive vehicles container shipping is a more desirable method. The car or vehicle will be secured and harnessed within the 20 ft. or 40 feet container and other personal belongings might be shipped within the container. It is more expensive but safer. At the Bahrain port, the car can be quarantined, if it has not been cleaned in advance.
It is good to know more about the regulations governing the import of vehicles to Muharraq, by checking the Bahrain Embassy website.
