What are the Places That Ship Cars?

Car shipping companies rely on location and addresses as a key factor to determine the type of service they offer to you. Places that ship cars are greatly determined by location. Where an exact address is not available for a shipment, a not-so-vague location and a landmark can work in its place. This, however, is limited to the type of shipping option the client opts for. Auto transport companies offer two main shipping (delivery) options; door-to-door and terminal-to-terminal.

Door-to-Door Option

This type of car transportation involves the vehicle transportation company making its way to a client’s address. The driver then performs a car hauler inspection before loading your vehicle onto the carrier.

The car is then delivered to the exact address provided by the client. For this type of shipping, it goes without saying that an exact address is needed. This option is great for those who wish to eliminate the hassle of taking the vehicle to a pickup station.

Terminal-to-Terminal Option

This type of transport service is also known as pick-up/drop-off. It is the shipping service opted where an exact address is not available. More so, it is the shipping service option that primarily depends on places that ship cars. A pickup location is communicated to the client where s/he takes the car. It is from this location that the car shipping company picks up the vehicle, loads it onto the carrier, and delivers it to a drop off point. It is these pick up terminals that are generally referred to as places that ship cars. They include the following;

Ports

A port is a specially constructed area just on the shoreline of a sea where cargo is loaded onto and from the cargo ship. The area is used to load cargo onto vessels through special gear including cranes, cradles, and containers. The client delivers the vehicle here, and the team takes care of the loading process into either an enclosed container.

Ports act as a location one would take a car for it to be shipped away by means of water transport. It is mostly used to transport vehicles internationally. Harbor

A harbor is a section in the sea near the shore that is deep enough to hold entire ships and shelter them from storms. It works in almost the exact manner ports do, only here, harbors perform duties of more than just loading cargo. Harbors are used as “hangers” for ships.

Auto transport companies offering international car shipping services by sea recommend that clients take the cars to a designated harbor. It makes the whole process easier as one inspection is done before the vehicle(s) are loaded onto an enclosed container and loaded to a cargo ship waiting by the harbor.

Airport Terminals

Luxury vehicles, for example, Rolls Royce, Lamborghini, Maybach, Bentley, and Bugatti brands, are mostly transported through air. Auto transport companies that offer luxury vehicle transportation exclusively give the option of transporting them through air. For this reason, arrangements are made such that the owner of the high-value cars takes the vehicle(s) to the designated airport terminal. The auto transport companies have affiliations and partnerships with the said airports.

Car storage facilities

Some deliveries may take more time than others. Therefore, car storage facilities are used as places that ship cars. Auto transport companies guide clients to deliver the vehicles to a designated storage facility from which it shall be picked up and shipped to another location as per the arrangement agreed. The car storage facilities here can be indoors, outdoors or plain yards.

In most cases, the car storage facilities are owned by the car transport company. They act as warehouses and branches for the car shipping company. Not every client comes from the city or home state of the company’s head office. Since shipping orders may come from any state that the company serves, the car storage facilities act as both a terminal and a branch.

Private parking lots

For auto transport companies whose branches are just offices without warehouses or storage facilities, they work through private parking lots. These act as the terminal from where clients take their cars for shipping. The private parking lots are well guarded, so you don’t have to worry about the safety of your vehicle.
