How to prepare your vehicle for the shipping process
When shipping a car, you need proper coordination between the owner, the shipping company agents and their drivers. Everyone has their own part to play. As the owner of the vehicle, here are a few things that you need to do in order for the move to be successful:
- Clean your vehicle both in and out. Document all damages including dents and scratches while taking photos. This helps you when making a claim for compensation should anything happen to your vehicle during shipping.
- Take out all your personal belongings from the car. Also, remove any aftermarket installations such as external speakers, stereos, bike racks etc. this is to prevent them from getting damaged or stolen. You should also note that these items are not covered by the insurance cover hence no compensation will be offered if the aforementioned happens.
- The weight of your vehicle is also a factor when it comes to the calculation of the price of shipping. It is therefore in your best interest to make your vehicle as light as possible. Having a full tank of gas increases the amount of money that you will pay. A quarter tank of gas is enough to cover the move since your vehicle will only be driven during loading and offloading.
- Disable any toll tags and parking passes. Leaving them on will result to charges since they will accrue while the vehicle is being shipped through toll stations.
- Disable your alarm system. It may seem like an inconsequential task but ignoring it may cause delays.
- Make copies of your car keys. It may be very difficult to find lost car keys in a container full of shipped items.
