Preparing Your Car for Auto Transport During A Move
The condition which your vehicle arrives in at the destination depends entirely on how well you have prepared it for shipping, as well as the reliability of the auto mover you hire. Most cars, transported when moving to a new residence, arrive with some damage. However, you can minimize such risk by preparing your car well for transportation before handing it over to the moving company. Here are a few tips to help you prepare your car for transportation during a move.
Have your car washed
Washing your car is the number one step to preparing it for transportation. It is often advised to document all the damages on your car prior to transportation and make a comparison when your car arrives. Dust and dirt can prevent you from noticing any dents, scratches, and dings on your car.
Remove and secure loose items on the inside
The inside of the car contains many components that can get lost or damaged in the process of moving from one region to the other. So, apart from making sure that your car’s interiors are clean, protect it from loss. Remove all loose items and secure any that you can to avoid losing them on the way. If there are any electronics in the car such as radio systems, chargers, or even cables, have them removed before you allow the moving company to load it into their truck.

Disable the alarms
Some car alarms are quite sensitive. Considering the movements expected as the car is transported, the alarms can keep going off. Not only is this a nuisance, your alarms can get damaged. To avoid such incidences, ensure that your car alarms are off.
Check the gas tank
Auto movers carry your vehicle as opposed to driving it. As such, you should ensure that it has no gas as you hand it over for transportation. Apart from the potential risk, a tank full of gasoline adds weight to the car. It is however, advisable to have little fuel in the car to allow you move it to a fueling point once it arrives.
Investigate the car for any leaks
Leaking cars are dangerous for transportation. Before you give out your car to an auto transporter for moving, ensure that the undercarriage has no leaks. In most cases, auto movers will not agree to transport a leaking vehicle.
Remove any custom accessories from the car
Do you have custom accessories or parts in your car? Some of those components have odd sizes and can break in the course of transportation. Ensure that your car does not have such things as it is being picked up for the move.
Damage and losses do happen during long distance moves. After hiring a moving company, your next step should be to make sure that your car is ready to be moved and that there are no loose items that can get lost on the way. Also, document all damages and ensure that you crosscheck all details upon arrival.
