How to prepare a car for shipping
A-1 Auto Transport loads vehicles on the truck according to the federal guidelines on weight and dimensions. Do not leave personal, household, and other unnecessary items inside the car to help us avoid flouting the rules.
Remove all the custom accessories fitted inside and outside the vehicle. You should make separate transport arrangements for aftermarket stereo systems and DVD players, GPS, spoilers, roof racks, bull bars, and ground effects.
Unless you give prior notice, transporters may not accept a non-running vehicle. It takes a lot more effort, skill, and resources to handle such assignments leading to extra charges. Run the following maintenance checks to keep the car in great shape for the shipping process:
- Make sure that you have a fully charged battery.
- Leave about 1/4 of gas in the tank. Do not keep too much fuel as it may complicate the shipping process and increase the safety risks.
- Top off the engine oil, transmission fluid, and coolant. You may add anti-freeze when going to a cold climate.
- Check for mechanical problems and send the vehicle for repair. You may document the issues if you have no time to get them fixed.
- If there are any quirks on your car such as a hard start, leave a note detailing the operating instructions for the truck driver.
A properly cleaned vehicle makes it easy to check for cosmetic damage during the pre-shipping inspection. The transporter will prepare a condition report on the Bill of Lading, which you will sign if you agree with its contents.
Disable the alarm system to keep it from triggering off and draining the battery during transportation. Fold in the side-view mirrors and remove/retract the antenna.
It is not unusual to find the truck running through toll stations along the highway. Deactivate any toll tags that you may have inside the vehicle prevent unnecessary charges. Prepare a spare set of keys and note the current odometer reading.
Check with the local transport authorities to get more information on what you need to do when shipping cars to or from Delta.
We have one of the largest shipping networks in the country, complemented by more than 20 years of industry experience. The scope is never a problem as we have enough resources to handle all kinds of shipping jobs, from helping small families to working with large corporations.
