How to prepare a car for shipping
Do not load household goods and personal effects inside the vehicle. The transit insurance will not cover for any of these items. You also risk penalties and confiscation by the DOT since our car carriers do not have a license to transfer household goods.
Use the following checklist to keep the car in running shape so that you can enjoy a smooth transition.
- Leave about 1/4 of gas in the tank so that our representative can drive the vehicle during the loading and unloading process.
- Keep the battery on a full charge and top off the fluid levels.
- Check the braking system and keep the tires properly inflated.
- Report all the unsolved mechanical issues and aggressive leaks in advance.
Our representative will run a physical inspection of the vehicle’s condition at the pick-up point. Get it thoroughly cleaned so that you can have a correct process and report. You may take photographs of all sides of the car using a smartphone or dedicated camera. Remember to date all the records and ask your transporter to include them on the Bill of Lading.
Remove all the customs accessories from the vehicle and make arrangements to transport them separately. The insurance policy may not cover the damage on aftermarket accessories like DVD players, GPS, speakers, spoilers, bull bars, ground effects, and luggage racks.
Active toll tags may run unnecessary charges during the transit process since your vehicle travels as cargo on the truck. Get them removed or deactivated before the shipping begins. Disable the alarm system, fold in the side view mirrors and retract/remove the antenna.
Prepare the necessary paperwork by visiting the local DMV. Find out about all the regulations on shipping cars to or from De Beque by checking with the authorities.
