How To Ship Your Apperson
The Apperson was no ordinary ride. One of the most celebrated vehicle manufacturers in the early nineties, the Apperson Company did not manage much after the twenties, but many of the vehicles it made still exist, and the most avid of collectors have them. With so few of them available today, getting your hands on one takes a bit of an effort. It is even harder to get a reliable company to ship it home. Classic collector’s items are very tricky to ship and require an auto transport company that has been in the business long enough to understand what it takes to transport vintage cars over long distances.
The first step when choosing a shipping company to move that vintage Apperson cross country is to understand what the shipping process needs. Obviously, the ultimate goals are to get the vehicle back home safe, but being a luxury car, there is much more to it. Obviously, the vehicle cannot be transported in an open carrier since it needs the highest level of protection from the elements and possible damage from road debris and from other cars. Being in a fragile state, it requires as fast transportation interstate as possible.
With this in mind, one should look for a company that offers just the right car transport services. For instance, while most companies have the open double decker type carriers, transporting a classic vintage like this will require an enclosed carrier. Since the transportation needs to be as fast as possible, look for a company that offers air transport, especially when shipping to or from overseas locations.
The Apperson will likely be in no condition to be driven long distance or even driven at all at the time of the shipping. This calls for a company that will be able to deliver the vehicle door to door, rather than on that only offers terminal based pickup and delivery.
The shipping industry is a tough one, with just as many rogue companies and brokers as there are reliable ones. Before making a choice on which company to go with, be sure to their reputation in the market. Online review forums are useful for this, providing complaints going further back than a year. The Better Business Bureau even shows whether the complaint was handled according to their standards. However, some online reviews are not honest, and if you do not trust them, then going old school is another option.
Before choosing an auto transport company, talk to a trusted friend who has had their car shipped before. Since companies are unlikely to post negative reviews on their websites, ask them for references, preferably past clients from whom one can find useful information.
