What is the Price of Shipping Three Cars to Hawaii from the Mainland?
Hawaii is an irresistible vacation destination and is often named as the top place that people dream of vacationing. For many people however, Hawaii is not just a vacation spot, it is a way of life and with more than 150,000 staffed to work on the military bases as either active duty or civilian, this brings an influx of people to the islands to live and work.
Hawaii has more than 1500 years of history that can be explored on each of the eight major islands that make up the Hawaiian Islands as well as the small islets in between. From the scenic beauty of the tallest sea cliffs in the world to the spectacular waterfalls, volcanoes and forest land to the amazing shoreline that borders the beautiful blue waters of the Pacific Ocean, Hawaii is a dream come true for those who live here.
Three or More Cars? No Worry!
It can be daunting to have to schedule shipment for three or more cars when you are planning a move to Hawaii, but when families relocate due to work or military relocation, it’s important to have a means of travel when you arrive. After all, every day can’t be spent snorkeling, surfing or swimming, can it? Car rentals are available on the Big island of Hawaii but if you are staying longer than a week or two, those costs add up fast and can leave you with an enormous bill to pay.
Modes of Transport
There are a couple ways to get three cars shipped to Hawaii that won’t break the bank.
- Roll/On Roll/Off (RORO)- The most common way to move a car from the mainland to Hawaii is with RORO shipping. Cars are driven onto a RORO boat where they are secured and transported.
If you are planning to ship three or more cars to Hawaii on a RORO ship, you need to start planning at least a month in advance to book the three to travel at the same time. You may even be able to get a little discount for shipping the three together. Be sure to ask for a discount for shipping multiple cars to see if the shipping company offers one.
*Cars shipped on a RORO ship must be fully emptied before they can be loaded onto the ship.
- Container Shipping- If you own a collectible car, an antique, classic or luxury car your best shipment method will be inside a dry, secure container. Containers can be rented in 20-foot and 40-foot sizes for cars. A 20-foot container will hold up to two vehicles while a 40-foot container will hold up to four.
Containers are great because on top of the cars, you can also include some of your personal property to ship inside the container at the same time.
Pricing for Shipment of Three Cars to Hawaii
Your overall shipping price is going to depend on the size and weight of the three cars combined among other things. The year as well as the make and model of each car will be used when factoring the price. Cars can often be shipped from the mainland to Hawaii for around $1000 if they ship from the west coast ports of the mainland to the Big Island of Hawaii. Greater distances from the port or transport via the interstate on the mainland or in Hawaii will of course generate larger fees.
Three cars can ship for anywhere between $2500 and $4000 from the mainland, but you will need to speak to your shipping agent for a detailed quote for the cars. The agent will need to enter the information on the cars to provide an accurate quote to ship.
