Everywhere you look, items are going up for sale online. You can take virtual tours of houses, have clothes sent to you, and you can even purchase vehicles and other automotive equipment. When looking for a vehicle to purchase on these sites, it is essential to remember that, in most cases, they come as is. Read the fine print for any problems that may exist with the car and request a test drive. As always, when meeting someone online, make sure you are using proper safety measures.
eBay Motors
You are probably familiar with the eBay brand. List items online, and you can either do a “buy it now” price or include it in an auction. The eBay brand itself was founded on September 3, 1995, in San Jose, California. The motor division of eBay did not enter the scene until five years later in 2000.
Just like any other site that sells items, eBay has had its fair share of scams associated with the products on their site. eBay Motors does allow for user feedback about their purchasing experience, payment methods that are verified secure, free vehicle history reports, and vehicle purchase protection that covers up to $100,000.
Types of Vehicles on the Site
eBay Motors is not just your one-stop-shop for cars and trucks. A wide range of motorcycles, boats, RVs, and trailers can be found for sale and auction. Along with actual vehicles, eBay Motors has automotive parts and accessories for sale too. From DIY to car care manuals, you can even get your tires online too.
eBay Motors offers a setup that accommodates all of your vehicle needs. You can even sell your own vehicles and parts through eBay Motors. Over five million cars have been sold under the eBay Motors platform.

Shipping After an eBay Motors Sale
The standard practice of shipping on eBay Motors is for the buyer to facilitate their shipping methods after the transaction is completed. eBay Motors offers a variety of options for shipping, or the buyer can choose their own shipping service for the vehicle. Professional shipping companies are the most logical solution for the safe transport of any type of vehicle.
If a buyer is worried about inspecting the vehicle, eBay Motors recommends setting up an inspection through SGS Automotive. Once a buyer has all of the relevant information, and they complete their purchase, choosing the right shipping company is the next step after completing payment.
How to Choose a Shipping Company
Once a buyer has begun searching for the right shipping company, they will want to get quotes as quickly as possible. A seller may require shipments to be facilitated within a specific period of time. The sooner the quotes are given to the buyer, the sooner they can decide on the company to use.
Once the buyer finds the right professional transport company to ship their vehicle to their desired location, they will arrange the pick up between the seller of the vehicle and the company of choice. The seller will be the one to do the Bill of Lading with the transport company driver, and the buyer will sign off on it once the shipment is received.
Don’t Get Scammed
Just like the crooked sellers on eBay Motors, some professional shipping companies aren’t as legitimate as they seem at first glance. These false shipping companies often provide poor service or will take payment without completing their obligations. Some essential items to check into when picking a shipping company is:
- The United States Department of Transportation number and the motor carrier number assigned by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. These numbers provide information about the companies, including their safety and reliability.
- The Better Business Bureau can provide some insight into a professional shipping company, especially if they have accredited the company. Companies receive a grade on a various number of things checked by the Better Business Bureau, and customer reviews do not influence these statistics. These are observations made by the Better Business Bureau themselves.
- Looking at the website of a professional shipping company should let you know if they are the real deal. There should be legal information and terms they post for the public. These should be free of grammatical and spelling errors. They should also be correct and unexaggerated.
