The settlers led a blissful and illustrious lifestyle which can be reflected in the architectural structure of the mansions and houses they built. The town’s commerce and industry blossomed, thanks to two major railways constructed in it. The existence of trains resulted to easier trading system between dealers and neighboring brokers. The railroads had also helped in expanding local business aside from antebellum agricultural farming.
Union Springs is the home of the 146-year-old Bullock County Courthouse, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 8, 1976. The Moorish-Revival-inspired Foster House was also listed as a national heritage on August 14, 1998. They also built other establishments such as the Red Door Theatre (former Trinity Episcopal Church), and the Union Springs Post Office operated by USPS.
Many prominent people in sports and religion were born in this prosperous town. The list includes NFL player Fate Echols, heavyweight boxer Seal Harris, college football coach Tim Stowers, African-American professional bowler Edith Burroughs, and All-American football player Jimmy Hitchcock. Christian evangelist Henry Babers and Methodist Bishop John Warren Branscomb also grew up in Union Springs.
