Most Asked Car Shipping Questions
- When the driver picks the car up, will I need to be present? - Yes, you will need to be present when the driver picks the car up and when the driver delivers the car. The DOT requires that an inspection report is filled out and the vehicle owner needs to sign this report with the driver. A vehicle release will need to be signed when the car is delivered as well. If you will not be able to meet the driver yourself, you will need to let the company know and you must have someone else meet the driver in your place that is of legal age to sign the paperwork.
- What is the difference between open and enclosed auto transport? - Open auto transport is the most common way to ship a car. Cars are loaded onto a truck that will possibly hold up to ten or more vehicles at one time and the vehicles are exposed to the elements as the truck is not enclosed. Open auto transport is the least expensive way to have a car transported via the interstate in the United States as well as via ship when moving overseas. Enclosed auto transport is generally a safer, more secure option for those that own high-end luxury cars, classic and collectible cars. Enclosed transport is sealed and protects cars from the elements and potential vandalism during transport. This type of transport will cost more than open auto transport and it is not available with all auto carrier companies.
- How long will auto transport take once my car has been loaded? - While many things including weather, accidents and late customers can alter the delivery times of auto transport, you can generally estimate the time for delivery to be the following:
- Coast to Coast: 10-14 Days
- North to South: 2-6 Days
- East Coast to Midwest: 3-5 Days
- Local or Up to 500 Miles: 1-3 Days
