Safe And Reliable Wisconsin Car Shipping Services By A-1 Auto Transport

Wisconsin is situated around the Great Lakes, which makes it a draw for those that want to engage in various water-based recreational opportunities. This might include water sports, camping, hiking, swimming and more. During the hot summer months, there is perhaps no better way to cool off than a drip in one of the lakeside beaches, enjoying sandy coastlines and gentle waves in the lake waters. Jet-skis and water-skiing are popular pastimes on the lake, for those with a bit more of an adventurous side. However, there is more to Wisconsin than simply its Great Lakes attractions.

The Mississippi River also runs through this state, and it is known for its vast dairy industry. In fact, the state produces some of the best cheese in the country. It also boasts a professional football team, behind which residents rally each season to cheer on the hometown heroes. Visitors can enjoy walking the North Country National Scenic Trail or the Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway. The industry is big business here as well since Wisconsin is among the biggest producers in the country for paper products. Johnson & Johnson is based here, as it Diversey, Inc. This means Wisconsin is a state with a large professional draw as well, and those that relocate to it often want to do with a car in tow. However, depending on whether they are coming from, they may not be interested in driving from wherever they are located. If you don’t want to drive yourself, then consider hiring a Wisconsin auto shipping company to take care of the transport part for you. This ensures that your car arrives and in one piece when it does, at a price you can afford.

Using Wisconsin Car Transport Companies

When you are looking to book Wisconsin car transport services, keep a few key tips in mind.

  • Make sure the company is registered with US DOT: Your auto transport company of choice should be registered with the U.S. Department of Transportation. Make sure that the company is registered before signing a contract with them for auto shipping.
  • Disable your car alarm: If you have an alarm on your car, then be sure to disable it before turning it over to the shipping company of your choice. The last thing you want is for the company to have to do it because it went off while shipping your car.
  • Prepare your car for shipping: Take out any personal effects and make sure that your car is properly secured before you schedule a pick-up or drop it off. Keep in mind that anything you leave in the car is not covered under the insurance policy for the transport company.

Visit the Wisconsin Department of Transportation website for more information on Wisconsin and the plentiful opportunities in which it can offer those visiting or relocating to the state.

Wisconsin Car Registration

You can register a car in Wisconsin through mail or in person. For this, you will need an ID, an application form which you must complete, and the registration fee.

If you’ve just moved to Wisconsin, as soon as your residency was established, you should register your family’s vehicles. Again, this can be done by mail or in person. Car registrations in Wisconsin have a 1 year validity period.

To register a car in person, go to the DMV office and provide the following:

  • Your vehicle registration from the previous state.
  • A MV1 Form (license/title plate application).
  • An identification proof, such as your military ID, your United States Passport, or your driver’s license.
  • If you’ve bought the car less than 3 months ago, you must pay the sales tax in the last state and provide proof of it.
  • You must pay the title and registration fees, as well as any county or municipal wheel taxes that apply.

If you wish to register through mail, remember it takes a few weeks for the entire process to develop. If your registration in the other state is almost expired, it may be better to register your vehicle in person.

However, if you have the time, then send a MV1 Form and the right payment by money order or check to the application’s listed address.

Vehicle inspection and auto insurance proof is not necessary to register your car in Wisconsin. However, if you want to renew a registration, you may need proof from a smog inspection.

According to the state’s law, you must place your Wisconsin plates on a new car after at most 2 days of buying it. If you cannot get permanent plates in this amount of time, temporary ones will suffice.

Remember

  • You can be fined by as much as $200 for driving without license plates.
  • Plates issued by dealers or those handmade are not accepted.
  • To get a 3 month temporary license plate without having to pay anything, go to the local DMV and provide proof of paying for the registration (if you’ve registered the car by mail).

Temporary tags and their application cost between $3 and $4.

Cars bought from a dealership

In this case, the dealer will deliver the registration documents in your stead. Make sure you receive temporary plates from the dealer.

Cars bought from an individual seller

If the car was bought from an individual seller, the registration must be handled by the buyer. This can be done through mail or in person.

Temporary Car Registration

If you need a 3 month temporary registration, since the permanent one is yet to arrive, go to the DMV in Wisconsin and provide the following:

  • An MV1 form (an application for the license plate/title).
  • The appropriate payment for the permanent vehicle registration certificate.

If you’re not a resident of Wisconsin and just bought a car in the state, you can get a temporary plate so you may drive it back to your home state.

Transferring Plates in Wisconsin

You can transfer the license plates of your old car onto a new one if:

  • They’re the same kind of vehicle.
  • The plates are valid.

Complete the MV1 Form, especially Section B, and send them to the DMV through mail. If you’ve got valid license plates, you don’t have to pay a fee.

Automobile Registration for Non-Residents and Military Personnel

If you’re a Wisconsin resident on active duty in the same state, you can register your car using the process described above through mail or in person.

If you’re stationed in another state or country, you can:

  • Ask someone else to register the car in your stead. They may need your duty orders and military ID to do so.
  • Register the car through mail.

If you haven’t used some of the registration fee when you entered the military, you may receive a refund.

Military Leave Temporary Plates

If your temporary leave is no longer than a month, you may use temporary plates to drive your car in that time. Registration is not necessary, and you can obtain them for free. Applying can be done through mail or in person.

If you wish to go to the DMV in person, make sure you bring:

  • A military service proof.
  • A military furlough proof.
  • A MV1 Form.

If you can prove your orders or have military identification, you can get credit for the times you did not use your car if these periods were 12 months or less. For information, speak to the Wisconsin DMV.

Non-Resident Car Registration in Wisconsin

You don’t need license plates from Wisconsin if you’re just visiting the state, if:

  • You don’t pay an income tax in Wisconsin.
  • You don’t live in Wisconsin.
  • You can’t vote in the state.

If you enroll in a University or College in Wisconsin as a student from another state, you don’t have to register your vehicle with the DMV in Wisconsin so long as you remain a student.

Fees for Car Registration

You will have to pay titling fees, registration fees, and even a wheel tax (in some cases) when registering your vehicle. These can be paid with cash, American Express, MasterCard, Discover, checks, etc.

Depending on the county, city, village, or town you register in, the wheel tax differs. Currently, you have to pay a wheel tax in the following places:

  • $10 in Chippewa,
  • $10 in Iowa,
  • $10 in St. Croix,
  • $20 in Lincoln,
  • $25 in Marathon,
  • $28 in Dane,
  • $30 in Milwaukee,
  • $20 in Milwaukee City,
  • $20 in Green,
  • $20 in Beloit City,
  • $20 in Fort Atkinson City,
  • $20 in Evansville City,
  • $20 in Gillet City,
  • $10 in Kaukauna City,
  • $20 in Janesville City,
  • $20 in Lodi City,
  • $30 in Milton City,
  • $20 in New London City,
  • $20 in Platteville City,
  • $20 in Portage City,
  • $20 in Sheboygan City,
  • $20 in Appleton City,
  • $20 in Arena Township,
  • $20 in Eden Village,
  • $10 in Iron Ridge Village,
  • $10 in Tigerton Village.

Passenger trucks and cars that weigh 8.000 pounds or less must pay this tax. The tax amount is not regulated or dictated by the state. Your residence is the sole factor.

If you want a refund for your registration, you will need:

  • The vehicle registration certificate from Wisconsin.
  • The year sticker from the car registration.
  • A letter in which you must explain your reasons for requesting a refund.

Duplicate vehicle registration in Wisconsin

If your registration certificate from Wisconsin is damaged, stolen, or lost, a duplicate can be ordered. It can be done in person, through mail, or online.

License Plates

You can choose between a standard and a specialized plate when registering your vehicle in Wisconsin. To replace a standard license plate, do as follows:

  • Complete a 2118 MV Form.
  • Send a check to the Fee Registration Trust. The price is $10 or more depending on what type of plate you want.

If you think your plates have been stolen, you should notify the police immediately.

Non-Operational Automobile Registration

If you’ve kept your car in storage and don’t want to pay late registration fees, you must complete a statement explaining you’re not using the vehicle. One of these scenarios must apply to qualify for such an exemption:

  • If the car is annually registered, it must not have been used for the past year.
  • If the car is registered on a quarter year basis, it should not have been used for the past quarter of a year.
  • If the car was registered on a monthly basis, more than 1 month should pass before you can report it as non-operational.

Reviews from Customers in Wisconsin

  • Thanks A1 Auto Transport! You’re the best! To start with the beginning…

Finding an auto transport company willing to ship a car the very next day is quite tricky. Who knew? I ended up calling for hours till I finally found one. Of course, their quote was out of proportion, so I left them hanging.

After another half hour of making calls and waiting for quotes, I got in touch with Joe through the number on his website. I explained to him my situation, what happened with the other guy, and he politely asked me to wait 2 minutes while he checked to see if any of his trucks were available.

To my luck, there was one passing through Wisconsin that very same day. He quickly calculated a quote for the transport, and it was more than reasonable. Later that day, a truck came by and picked up my Civic. This could have been a disaster if not for Joe and A1. I was already considering leaving the car with my mother. I hope this review gets you a million clients!! You deserve every last one.

  • I gave a broker a full month to find me a carrier before I found Joe on my own. Just in time, as I had 5 days left for the transport. My car arrived in Wisconsin in good condition and on time.

Joe brought me peace of mind and made a potentially nightmarish process surprisingly simple. I can’t thank you enough for being so reliable and trustworthy.

Since then, I’ve recommended A1 to a couple of acquaintances, and they were all impressed with the service. They all found Joe a pleasure to talk to and the drivers prompt and professional.
