How To Choose Long Distance Movers In Washington DC – Your Step-By-Step Guide

Are you moving out of Washington DC? Whether you’re moving for work, personal reasons, or just a change of scenery, you may need Washington DC long distance movers – to help you move your stuff to your new home, and ensure a seamless transition to your new home, apartment, or condo.

Using Washington DC long distance movers is much easier than hiring a truck and doing a DIY move. It can save you a lot of time, headaches and frustration. But how do you know which long distance moving company to use? In this guide, we’ll walk you through the entire process. Let’s get started now.

Consider The Moving Services You Need And Make A Budget

Before you start looking at moving companies, you need to create a budget for your move, and consider what services you’re interested in. If money is no object, and you don’t have the time to pack up your things yourself, you may want to consider full service movers.

A full service moving company handles every single step of the moving process. They will come to your home, pack your stuff up in boxes, secure it properly, move it into their truck, and unpack everything at your destination. You don’t have to lift a finger – making this a very convenient way to move, especially if you are short on time, and need to move quickly.

However, full service moving can be a bit expensive. If you’d like to save some money, you can opt to pack most of your things yourself. Then, your movers can just come and pick up your stuff, and unload it at your destination.

This is a cheaper option, and you have the added peace of mind of packing all of your own stuff, so you’ll know that it’s protected, and you’ll easily be able to organize your possessions once you move to your destination.

Make A List Of Licensed And Insured Movers In Your Area

Once you’ve determined the moving services you need, and you’re ready to take the next step, it’s time to start putting together a list of movers in your area. Make sure you choose only movers who are licensed and insured by the Department of Transportation, and all other relevant authorities in Washington, DC.

A-1 Auto Transport, Inc. can help you move your household goods nationwide. Call 888-509-3213 to get a free, no obligation to buy price quote on interstate moving services.

Be careful when choosing movers. If you see a moving company that looks shady, or has very low prices for their services, you probably shouldn’t work with them – because they could be unlicensed, and uninsured. If something goes wrong during the move and your possessions are stolen or damaged, you may not be able to get any compensation. It’s just not worth the risk.

So look for local, high-quality long distance moving companies like A-1 Auto Transport, and put together a list of companies, to ensure that you have plenty of options for your big move.

Narrow Your List Down To The Top 3-5 Moving Companies

Once you’ve done some basic research, you should narrow your list down to a few top companies, based on online reviews from websites like Yelp, the Better Business Bureau, Angie’s List, and other such companies. You can also take a look at customer testimonials on the website of each moving company.

Online reviews are a great way to get an idea of the real-world services that a moving company provides – and eliminate companies which may offer bad service, or that are difficult to work with. If a company has mostly positive reviews, you’ll likely have a good experience – but if you notice a lot of bad reviews, or most customers note difficulties with the moving process, you may want to find different Washington DC long distance movers

Using customer feedback and online reviews, choose the moving companies that seem the most reputable in the area.

Ask For A Written Estimate For Your Move

After you’ve chosen a few different moving companies, it’s time to take the next step, and ask each one for a written price quote. Ideally, you’ll get at least three quotes in writing. This will help you make sure you get a good deal, and that each of your preferred companies are offering comparably-priced services.

Many movers will provide an estimate for free, but some moving companies may charge a small fee for a written estimate. This is because the process is somewhat labor-intensive. It usually involves an employee coming to your home, apartment or condo, and estimating the cost based on how much stuff you’re moving, how easy it will be to move large items (like couches), and a number of other factors.

And, while you can get a quote over the phone, this typically will be a much less informed estimate – the actual price of the move could be very different. That’s why we recommend getting formalized quotes.

You should also ask for all of the costs on your quote to be broken down into a detailed list – such as the cost of labor, supplies, and each service provided by the company. This helps you understand the price of your quote in more detail.

Choose Your Washington DC Long Distance Movers And Put Down A Deposit

Once you’ve found a reputable mover and gotten a written estimate for their services, it’s time to close the deal, and put down a deposit for their services. Once you’ve signed the contract and paid a deposit, you probably won’t be able to back out of the deal without losing your deposit – so make sure that you’re certain about the company you’ve chosen before you take this step.

Not all moving companies require a deposit. However, those that do may charge up to about 20% of the price of the quote that you received. Be wary if the company asks for a deposit that’s larger than this – any deposit that’s higher than 20% could be indicative of moving fraud. You could pay up to 50% in advance, and then the moving company may never even show up, leaving you in a very difficult situation.

Get Ready For Your Move

If you’ve opted for full-service moving, you won’t really have to do anything on your moving day. Make sure to put aside all of the clothes, electronics, and personal items that you’ll need during your trip to your new home, and then let the movers take care of the rest. They’ll pack, secure, and move all of your stuff into the truck, and be on their way.

If you’re packing your stuff yourself, you’ll want to make sure that everything in your home is packed up and ready to go on the agreed-upon move-in date. We don’t recommend trying to pack everything in a single day. Instead, start by packing up non-essentials in the weeks leading up to your move.

Then, as moving day gets closer, start packing up rooms such as your kitchen and bedroom. Keep everything organized, label your boxes, and make sure to use plenty of padding material for fragile and delicate items. Don’t be intimidated – pack one box at a time, and one room at a time. Before you know it, you’ll be done.

Make The Trip To Your New Home – And Know What To Expect When Unpacking

Whether you’re just moving a few hundred miles away from Washington DC, or across the country, it’s time for you to head to your new home – and then get ready for the unpacking process.

Again, if you hired a full-service moving company, you won’t have to do nearly as much work. Your movers will bring all of your stuff into your new home, and then you’ll direct them on the placement of furniture, as well as where you want all of your stuff to be stored. They’ll unpack everything for you, under your directions.

If you’re moving on your own, your movers will simply take all of your stuff, and put it all in your new home. They may organize it by room, but they won’t handle any of the unpacking. You’re responsible for moving your furniture, organizing your stuff, and unpacking.

When unpacking, focus on getting the basics done first. Unpack some of your clothes and set up your bedroom, then unpack some of your kitchen and bathroom items, so that you’ve got all the basics you need.

Then, you can continue to unpack each room day-by-day, as you’ve got the time and energy to tackle the project! This is usually much easier – and much less exhausting – than trying to unpack your entire home over a weekend, especially if you’ve just made a long trip to get to your new home.
