What is The Safest States To Live In Across The US?
The year 2017 was characterized by many natural disasters and shootings especially in Florida making it one of the worst places to live in people’s minds. Safety is a basic need for humans and it is one of the things people look at when deciding to move. Living in a place where there are fewer burglaries, rapes, carjacking, shootings and natural disasters make one sleep better at night.
How to quantify safety
According to a report done by WalletHub, safety indicators include the number of assaults per capita, fatal occupational injuries, number of climate disasters, DUIs per capita and poverty rate. The safest states in the US have fewer of these occurrences and they report higher personal and residential safety, road safety, workplace safety and emergency preparedness.

Data collected from FBI, Fire Administration, National Centers for Environmental Information and other sources lists the 5 safest states in the US as follows:

New Hampshire
Jumping from last year’s number 5, New Hampshire is now the safest state to move into and live. It is the leading safest state in property crimes per capita and third safest in violent crimes with only 17 murders reported the whole year. If you compare that figure with states like California and New York which have a 100 times that number, you can see why the entire New England area is indeed the best place to raise your family.
Maine
Maine is leading as the safest state in violent crimes per capita and is number three in property crimes per 100k. You can expect very low levels of rapes, murders and other violent crimes.
Vermont
Vermont only had 14 murders the whole of last year making it the second safest state in violent crimes per 100k. Vermont also has the lowest number of assaults, driving fatalities and people who lack health insurance. It is the best place to have a baby because it’s so relaxed and mothers will have no stress at all.
Idaho
Most people don’t even know that Idaho is a state because it is apparently very low key in very many ways. That seems to be a good thing since it has landed the 4th slot as the safest state in the US. It reports just 3 murders a month while some states get that per hour.

Massachusetts
Massachusetts played a major role in the country’s inception and it continues to be a leading state both economically and culturally. It has very few reported crimes because of the vigilant police force as well as a very proactive community. It is one of the most technologically advanced states and they use that technology to advance security.
While some states did not make it to the top 5, places like Washington reported lowest rates of natural disasters while Rhode Island was leading with lowest occupational injuries. If you can pick the state you will live in, the above 5 would be a good place to start with.
