Ways more efficient to getting around are a priority in the world since Antiquity when the Sumerians from ancient Mesopotamia discovered the wheel, which would later make a revolution in the transportation system. However, thinking about our everyday situations, it is necessary to improve the current urban public transport system in large metropolises, which find obstacles to get a large number of users to move.
The migratory movement in the USA to the great urban centers intensified with the passage of the years, having its apex after the Revolution of 1930 until the middle of the decade of 1980, which resulted in an overcrowding of the cities. In addition, the easiness in the acquisition and financing of individual transportation vehicles, bringing a certain level of comfort and convenience to the population, making public roads almost inaccessible at peak times, making it difficult to transport from their place of work to their residence, further accentuating the chaos arising from the exponential population growth.
However, the problem is still far from being solved. This is because a large part of the migrant population, due to its low purchasing power, is located in the outskirts of the big cities, having restricted access to entertainment venues and jobs due to their distance. In addition, the precariousness of the current transportation system of large metropolises causes approximately 20% of people to leave collective transport aside, and use their car to get around, occupying the space that a bus, for example, could be carrying a larger number of people.
Therefore, measures are needed to counter the impasse. For this, the road space must be used in a way that is logistically more acceptable, in which a portion of the population that uses their car to move aside this habit, and opts for collective transportation, which is capable of behaving more people in a smaller space. This should be combined with a growing investment by large city governments in rail and subway systems, which should pay particular attention to individual transport since they are able to carry in a shorter period of time a greater number of users. In this way, urban public transport becomes less chaotic and more pleasant to the public.
