What is The Importance of Cleaning up the House before Leaving?
When you have spent the last week or more breaking your back to pack everything and get ready for the move, the last thing you want to hear about is cleaning. More often than not, the movers are usually waiting right there for the last box to be loaded so you can leave to the new house and off-load the truck. However, should you clean the old house before you leave? The answer is a resounding yes and this is why:
It’s good manners
After you have taken out the refrigerator and cooker you will see how much grime was living under there. There is also that spot under the bed and the couch that was never reached by the mop and of course there is the basement. Imagine if you found the new house you are moving into in that grimy condition. While it is not a legal requirement to clean the house before you leave, good manners, ethics and humanity dictate that you consider the person who will move in after you.

To get your bond back
When you lease a house, there is usually a bond or deposit that you put up with the landlord and it is refundable after you move out. However, the landlord will deduct some of the things that you have spoiled in the house and probably some house paint if the walls are in bad condition. The amount of bond you will get back depends on how the house looks after you leave. If you leave the house dirty, the landlord or agent will be forced to hire a cleaning company to do the cleaning in preparation of the new tenant and that fee will be charged on your deposit. Cleaning the house thoroughly before you leave is therefore necessary because it will improve the appearance of the house and prevent the landlord from getting pissed at you.
Attract new buyers
If you are moving to a better house and putting your old house on the market, it is important to make sure that what possible buyers will find is attractive enough. Cleaning everything from top to bottom and touching up the paint makes a huge difference in the appearance and that will attract buyers. Even if you have already sold the house, the new home owner will appreciate moving into a clean house.
To find stuff
Most people pack in a hurry because of time and the movers are usually very fussy. Because of that, it’s easy to forget something in the old house. However, as you clean each empty room before leaving, you will find things that you forgot in drawers, cabinets and basement.
Move-out cleaning involves a lot of things like windows, walls, cabinets and drawers. The cleaning should start days before the official moving day and you must start packing early so you can have some time to do a final cleanup. If you don’t have the time to do a thorough job, you can hire professional end of tenancy cleaners to do the job for you. Professionals know what is required by landlords and they have the proper equipment and products to do the job quickly and thoroughly.
