Terrell Automobile Shipping Tips
When youโre booking auto transport for your vehicle, keep these tips in mind:
- Ask Questions- When you contact individual companies you need to ask as many questions as possible about their company, policies, and transport regulations. Find out how long they have been in business, how much insurance coverage they offer and if they own their own carriers or have to contract with others for carrier service. Companies that have been in business for more than 3 years are generally more reliable. There are many companies that spring up daily claiming to be auto transport companies and you need to verify their business.
- Proof in Writing- You need to get everything in writing. The price quote, proof of insurance and everything else concerning the shipment of your vehicle. Make sure the quote given is not subject to change once you have booked service and validate the insurance by getting a copy of the insurance certificate or have it put in writing to state the amount. If the insurance coverage is not enough to cover your vehicle you may want to see if the company can upgrade the coverage amount or you can speak to your private insurer to see if coverage is available for your car while it is being transported.
- Make Sure Your Car Is Ready- You must get your car ready for shipping before the carrier arrives. You need to make sure the car is clean inside and out and remove all personal items from inside the car. Make sure there is nothing loose on the outside of the vehicle and fold mirrors in towards the car as fold the antenna down. Drive the car around to lower the fuel level to less than a half tank of gas and make sure the fluids and oil have been checked and the car has the antifreeze filled. This is very important if the car will be transported to a new climate. Disable the alarm and make sure you have a spare key to the ignition, doors, and trunk for the driver.
