Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous region of Tanzania which is located in the Eastern parts of Africa. It consists of a variety of small islands as well as two larger ones. The Zanzibar City is the capital and is situated on the Island of Unguja.
Zanzibar offers a lot of employment options which are attracting people from all over the world. This is why it’s highly advisable to consider importing your own vehicle, especially if you plan on long-term accommodation. If your intentions are to study or to work in the country, you might want to import your car from the USA. The city has well-developed road network which makes the traveling rather easy. The overall reliability of this option is greater than having to use the public transport. You can go for both container and RORO shipping which is quite convenient. However, the RORO is rather cheaper but you’d have to present the car with nothing in it but the car jack, spare tire and floor mats. On the other hand, container shipping allows additional belongings to be sent along with the car in a private container. This is also why it’s more expensive.
Tanzania doesn’t impose an age limit on the used cars but the cars which are older than 10 years are subjected to higher taxes. This is why it’s important to get a handle of these details prior to the process and discuss them with the shipping agent. You’d also have to undergo a roadworthiness test in order to get clearance. If your car fails them you’d have to make certain modifications in order to get it validly cleared by the Ministry of Transport.
There is a 250% import duty imposed on all of the used cars and between 10% and 20% VAT on imported vehicles. There is a wide range of ports available in Tanzania and freight shipping is generally a profitable business. Working with an auto transport company like the A1 Auto Transport is going to ensure a hassle-free and smooth shipping of your vehicle.
