An inevitable aspect of auto import is the submission of all documents that are related to the ownership and proof of purchase. You are required to submit them not just with the Norwegian Customs but with the U.S Customs before the vehicle is shipped out. These documents include:
Title deed and U.S registration documents.
- Proof of owning the vehicle- your passport/driving license.
- Vehicle insurance.
- Work permit/residency visa.
- Bill of Lading.
If you are looking at calculating the amount of tax that is payable when you import your vehicle from USA, it is essential to know that the shipping and insurance costs are considered along with the evaluated price of the vehicle. Based on these aspects, you need to pay a fixed 30% import duty, 25% VAT and then there are additional taxes of scrap deposit and one-off registration. These need to be paid after the vehicle has been cleared by the Public Roads Administration of Norway.
