Located in the western part of Nicaragua, Tipitapa is located between Lake Nicaragua and Lake Managua. It is in the “Lakes Basin” and this basin goes from the Gulf of Fonseca to Rio San Juan.

If you are relocating here or plan to do so in the next few weeks, it is important to know that it is good to have your own vehicle to traverse the city and the suburbs for work or leisure travel. A1 Auto Transport Service will use their twenty years of experience to help you ship your vehicle to Nicaragua and can offer door-to-port service as well.

You can choose to have the vehicle picked up at your home and delivered to the port you choose or you can choose the port-to-port which means that you drive the vehicle to port and pick it up at port. When your vehicle is shipped, it can be placed inside of a container, the more expensive option, a shared container, lower cost, or the Roll On/ Roll Off method which requires that your car is driven onto the ship and then fastened down for the trip.

Additional Costs of Shipping.

The cost of transporting your vehicle will depend on many factors, including your method of shipping you decide on. Other factors that will influence your cost include the weight and size of your car which is how customs determines the amount of custom taxes. Other import taxes, inspection costs, and port imposed tariffs may also be added to your bill. The Nicaraguan Treasury Department retains any rights to levy taxes on your import process. You never know how much it will cost until it’s over. Your carrier will be able to give you a rough estimate.

Requirements for Importing to Nicaragua.

You can use ship either new or used vehicles as long as they are under ten years of age. In certain cases, you won’t be able to import a vehicle over ten years old unless you have listed it as a classic. Any vehicle imported will be required to pay taxes that are based on the value of your car as well as the model. The car will need to be prepared before you take it through Nicaraguan Customs. You will need:

  • to clean it inside and out.
  • To have only 1/4 tank of gas.
  • No fluids leaking.
  • No anti-theft devices or alarms activated.
  • No loose parts.
  • No openings or tears.

Paperwork Required.

You will need to have the required paperwork together for both the exit port in USA and the port of entrance in Nicaragua. The shipper will help you gather up the documents you will need in order to help you. You will need:

  • Driver’s license.
  • Passport.
  • Proof of ownership .
  • Original Bill of Lading.
  • Commercial purchase agreement or invoice.
  • Certificate issued by the Nicaraguan Consulate located in the U.S
  • Your vehicle must follow rules and regulations listed in Title 19 of the U.S Code of Federal Regulations.
  • U.S. Customs and Border Protection certificate filed in time for importing.

A1 Auto Transport Service can help you file the proper documentation but it’s important that you verify this before you ship. You need to have this form filed at least 72 hours before your vehicle is scheduled to leave the port.
