Documents and taxation paperwork
If you hope to import a car to Cambodia, you have to know that it’s an expensive process as the related taxes are rather high. There is a chart of calculation which is going to determine the value of the vehicle and the current market value doesn’t play much of a difference which might cause you to pay higher taxes. The taxes on imported vehicles range from:
- Customs Duties: 0-35%
- Special Tax: 0-50%
- VAT: 10%
- Export tax – 5-50%
Long Term Maintenance.
The taxes are often going to turn out to be higher than the price of the vehicle itself. What is more, you might find it rather difficult to find the replacement parts that you need. The long-term maintenance fees, as well as the process of importation itself, could be rather costly. Don’t forget to consider the fact that the prices of gas are also rather high. You should, therefore, consider importing your vehicle only if you can actually afford the expenses.
You should also be aware that there are quite a lot of documents to be handled and you have to get them submitted to the U.S. Border Protection and Customs Agency at least 72 hours prior to the export. It is essential to determine whether your vehicle meets the international eligibility criteria. For instance, if you have a lien on the car, you have to get the authorized written permission of the lien holder that you can export the vehicle. For other rules of the kind, you can refer to the Title 19 of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations. The documents which are required include:
- Driver’s License.
- Proof of ownership.
You will need to check the international shipping eligibility of your vehicle you want to import to the country. If you have a lien on your vehicle, then you will need to write permission from the lien holder stating that you have permission to take the vehicle out of the states. There are two methods that you can choose from – Roll-on/Roll-off and Container shipping. Contact the Royal Embassy of Cambodia for any further information.
