Portoviejo is a very important commercial area of Ecuador as well as a junction for travelers heading to and from the cities of Guayaquil and Quito. Sitting less than 20 miles from the Pacific Coast as well as having its own airport makes it easy to have your car shipped to the city. Agriculture has been a thriving business for many years in Portoviejo, and recently many other businesses including large shopping malls have been quite industrious as well. The roadways are usually very busy, and while there is public transportation, nothing can compare to having your own car to drive when you need to go somewhere. Roadways in Portoviejo were for many years filled with potholes that made travel difficult. In recent years, the roadways have been updated and repaired so travel should flow smoothly. You will want to drive carefully in Portoviejo though due to the lack of posted road signs. To have your car shipped to Portoviejo you will need to hire a reputable automobile transporter to assist you with the relocation.
Professional Transport Company.
A professional automobile transport company like A-1 Auto Transport will be able to handle all of your international automobile shipping needs quickly and efficiently. To get a shipping price quote you will need to give the representative that you speak to some information about your vehicle such as the make, model and year. They will also need to know if you have altered the car in any way that could affect the size or weight. The representative will discuss damage insurance coverage and you will need to decide on the amount necessary for your car. They will also explain the various ways that you can ship the car and will let you know which way will be best for your car as well as your shipping budget.
How to Ship a Car Overseas.
When you need to have your car shipped from the United States to Portoviejo you will need to use a shipping carrier. Most prefer to ship their automobiles by sea carriers as the price is generally affordable and the process is easily done. There are two ways to have your car shipped by sea to Ecuador.
ROROShipping- RORO is a type of open shipping, similar to the methods you may see in the trucking industry on the interstates around the nation. Cars, trucks, vans, SUV’s and other motor vehicles are driven onto a RORO vessel, secured for transport overseas, and then driven off the vessel at the entry port in Ecuador. RORO is short for Roll-On Roll-Off and is the most common way to ship a car overseas. It is the fastest as well as the lowest cost type of sea shipping available for motor vehicles. Your representative will let you know what preparations you may need to do to prepare your vehicle for transport but this will usually include cleaning the car out inside as well as on the exterior. You will want to make sure the fuel level is at or less than one quarter tank and that the battery is fully charges and the other fluids are at the correct levels. You will also want to disable any vehicle security alarms prior to the car being loaded for travel as it is possible for the alarm to be set off during transport. Not only can this be annoying for those working on the ship, but most importantly it can cause the automobile battery to drain during shipment.
Container Shipping- Shipping with enclosed, or container shipping, is a very popular way to ship your car, especially if you have a high priced automobile or an antique car. Containers are usually available in 20 or 40 foot sizes and many are climate controlled and even have padding for extra protection during transport. Just as with RORO shipping, cars are driven or rolled inside of the shipping container and then the container is loaded onto a container ship. Container shipping can take a little longer for delivery as there are fewer container ships available and also due to the fact that customs must open containers for inspection during transport. If you are shipping personal items inside the container you will need to have an accurate packing list detailing all of the contents of the container.
Motor Vehicle Regulations with Customs.
Motor vehicle regulations in Ecuador are very strict on emissions controls in automobiles. Prior to shipping your car to Portoviejo you will need to have an inspection complete on your car and make sure that the emissions is modernized and up to date for regulations. You can contact the Ecuador Embassy for more information on required vehicle mandates. For customs in Ecuador you will need to have the following paperwork:
- Vehicle Title.
- Original Bill of Sale.
- Driver’s License.
Your auto transport representative will discuss other documents that you will need for customs when scheduling your car for transport.
