The city of Lobito is located in the province of Benguela in Angola. Scenically and strategically located on the Catumbela Estuary, the city is situated on the Atlantic Coast makes the city a perfect destination for trade and commerce.
Whether you are moving here to work or other personal reasons, you need to bring your car along with you when you move. As one of the main ports in the country, it is important to adhere to the rules and regulations, as specified by the Angolan General Tax Administration (AGT)

Knowledge about the customs regulations and procedures along with the requisite documentation is essential and that is where A1 Auto Transport steps in. We have been shipping automobiles to Angola for years and understand the internal working of the customs department, ensuring faster deliveries and quick clearances. It is best to have the documents in order so there is no reason for delay. We will need you to submit:
- Proof of ownership.
- Cartao de Contribuinte (tax card).
- Car title deed.
- Purchase invoice for the vehicle.
- Valid insurance policy.
- PIP number allocated to the importer.
- CNCA certificate.
- Visa/work permit.
- Bill of Lading.
Specific vehicle regulations.
Among few of the African countries, Angola government requires that the pre-shipping inspections are done, before the vehicle is shipped out of USA. You can get the information at Angola Consulate. Only after the Certificate of Inspection has been provided, the vehicle can be shipped for Lobito. As we have prior experience with these aspects, we’ll take care of the requirements. However, the documents are required by the U.S Customs and Border Protection service before the vehicle is shipped. All requisite fees are to be paid before you ship it out from U.S and at the port of Lobito when the car arrives there. To get further information about the shipment and related costs, contact the Angola Consulate.
Vehicles that are older than three years can be imported to Lobito which the vehicles on a temporary permit are allowed to be driven for 2 years with a bond deposit of 45% based on the cost of the vehicle, shipping and freight charges. However, vehicles that are permanently imported have to pay 40% to 45% tax and 10% VAT. It is best to know that the method of shipping that you choose will add to the cost. We offer door to door and port to door services which mean if you cannot be available in Angola, we will complete the customs formalities and drop off your car to the address in Lobito. We offer door to port services as part of our added services and this takes away the stress from you to deliver it to the nearest port. However, the charges are added to the final invoice.
Though there are three methods of shipment, air shipping is usually not a preferred choice because of the high price and that is why Roll-on/Roll-Off and enclosed container shipment are usually the norms. The car is driven on and off the ship and during transit, it is harnessed on the deck. This is RORO method while in Container shipment; your vehicle is put inside a large shipping container and sealed. This protects it better. But it is more expensive as your personal items are allowed to be shipped along with the car. It is best to clean the car completely, remove the fire hazards of air conditioning gas and fuel from the vehicle and disable all alarms before the vehicle is shipped from USA.
