The Irish city of Limerick is situated in the Mid-West Region in the province of Munster. It has its location on the Shannon River, while the main portions are located on the King’s Island, which has historic meaning. If you are moving here to study or to work, it helps to have your personal vehicle with you.
If you have the required information, shipping your car to Ireland can be a really easy process. A-1 Auto Transport service has a lot of experience with shipping vehicles to Ireland on short terms and is incredibly familiar with the details of the shipping process.
You have to know that Northern Ireland is not considered to be a part of Ireland. This is rather important because Ireland is part of the EU while Northern Ireland abides by the regulations set forth by the UK.
Recommendations on the Import.
There are unlikely to be any communication issues because English is the main language. The policies are also rather consistent. With stringent laws in place, Irish Customs officials are well-trained and you can expect them to do everything as it’s intended. It’s safe to say that if documentation is in order, as per their guidelines, you won’t have any problems.
The cost of getting your vehicle from the United States is going to depend on whether or not you are eligible for import duty and the Value Added Tax exemption. A-1 Auto Transport has a lot of information on how to actually get those exemptions and our shipping agents are going to lead you through the entire process. Once you get Customs clearance, you must make sure to register the vehicle. This has to be done within the first 6 months. You can do this at any car testing center in Limerick. You have to pay a tax upon registering which is generally based on the market value of the car.
Requirements for Shipping.
In order to import your car to Limerick, you need to submit:
- Ownership proof.
- Proof of U.S insurance which states that you’ve had the vehicle for at least six months.
- Bill of Sale with the date, price and location of the original dealership.
- Registration Certificate.
- List of inventory of accessories.
- Proof of Residency/work permit within the Republic of Ireland.
Methods of Shipment.
Although air shipping is the fasters, it is usually not considered as it is too expensive. Other methods that are used to ship your vehicle include:
This is the most preferred way because it is definitely the cheapest. Your vehicle is driven on the ship deck of the freight ship and then fastened in the parking bay. However, you need to only ship an empty vehicle. The drawbacks are related with longer shipping time and inconsistencies in arrival times.
This is going to be more costly but it comes with additional benefits. You are going to hire a large container which will provide a lot of security. On top of that you would be able to ship other personal belongings along with your vehicle. All of it will be stored within the 20 feet or 40 feet container. It is also likely to arrive faster in Ireland.
