The largest Gambian town in the Kombo North Western Division, Lamin is quite populated and is one of the larger market areas in the region.
With poor public transportation which is not only irregular but offers a lot for improvement, it is best to import your vehicle here, in case you are going to stay here temporarily or on an extended basis.
Additionally, with torrential rainfall during the monsoons, the unpaved roads become unnavigable and that is why it is better if you import a SUV or a 4-wheel drive here. Importing a vehicle is not as complex as you imagine, especially when you have A1 Auto Transport at your service to walk you through the procedures. The Port of Banjul accepts both RORO and containers hipping so you have the option of shipping as per your requirements.

Gambian laws and requirements on auto transport.
As per specific laws in Gambia for auto import, you are required to submit the original Bill of Sale of the vehicle that gives complete details about license plates, Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), engine and chassis number, make, model and year. Additionally, check whether the vehicle you intend importing is a left hand drive because Gambia does not permit right- hand driven vehicles.
All taxes are subject to the cost of the vehicle, insurance and cost of shipping which varies as per the vehicle you are importing. There is 1% sales tax applicable by the Gambia Revenue Authority and 10% import levy on all imports. You are required to submit a host of documents including
- International Driver’s License.
- Bill of Lading.
- Social Security number.
- Passport and photo ID of the owner.
- Insurance documents pertaining to the vehicle.
A1 Auto Transport will be able to help you the documentation and inform you about any changes in the import policy of Gambia, if it occurs. In case you need someone to pick up your vehicle from your home and drop it off at the nearest port for shipping to Lamin, please let us know. We offer door to door and door to port services at additional fee, but it offers you convenience of knowing that your vehicle will be safety transported. To get a free quote on your vehicle shipment to Lamin, you will need to discuss the shipment and decide on the method of freight shipping you need.
Roll-On, Roll-Off and enclosed container shipping are the most preferred methods. If you only need to ship your standard vehicle to Gambia, RORO works as it is affordable. But if you are moving personal belongings abroad along with the vehicle, container shipping might be a better idea. This is more expensive but worth it as the 20 feet or 40 feet containers will be able to ship everything together.
If you are unsure about it, we’ll be glad to help you decide as per your custom requirement and budget. Laws for import and export keep changing and that is why it is good to connect with the Embassy of Gambia in USA to get the latest information about the procedures.
