Need to import your vehicle.
If you are moving to Gweru and want to stay either short term or long term, you will want to take all the opportunities that you will have to view the beautiful city and explore the suburbs of Bulawayo and Harare. To do that, you will need to have your own personal transportation in order to go at your will. Before you move to Gweru, you should explore your options and the rules and regulations of importing so you won’t be caught off guard when you are ready to start the process.
Zimbabwe is a landlocked nation, so you will need to ship your vehicle to Beira in Mozambique. Since the river ports and harbors are bountiful and are all located close the city, you will need to choose to have your import by land from Beira Port in Mozambique or choose the river routes. If you want this decision and this entire process to be less complicated, you will need to hire A1 Auto Transport service to handle everything for you. With over two decades of experience moving the vehicles to South Africa, you won’t go wrong hiring a team that specializes in the field. In addition, you don’t have to worry about those tedious decisions that you may not completely understand.
Zimbabwe Revenue Authority will require that Form 47 be filled out as this is a necessity before the vehicle is approved. This is the ZIMRA Custom Declaration Form which provides them all the information they need about your vehicle that you are importing. You will need to ensure that the vehicle you are driving in Zimbabwe is on the right side. You will need to pay all charges including the fixed customs duty of 40%, the 25% surcharge if your vehicle is more than five years old. There are currently no emission standards or road worthiness of the vehicle required in order to drive.
You will need to provide customs with the copies of the following documents:
- Title to your vehicle.
- Proof of ownership.
- Driver’s license.
- Proof of insurance.
- ZIMRA Custom Declaration Form.
- SABS Letter of Authority from.
- Import Permit.
Methods of Shipping to Consider.
Shipping by air is certainly the fastest way to ship your vehicle to any country, however, most cannot afford this type of shipping so the other options are Roll On/ Roll Off and container shipping. Since Zimbabwe does not have a seaport, the vehicle is imported from the land by way of multi-carriers or it can be driven across the Mozambique border instead.
From the United States port to Mozambique port, you will be able to select the Roll On/ Roll Off shipping method which involves your vehicle being driven onto the deck of the ship, secured, and then harnessed into place for security. Once it reaches the port in Mozambique, it will be driven off by way of multi-carrier. This is the way that several vehicles can be transported at one time. It may also be driven by way of the Mozambique border.
Container shipping is your second option and it requires a 20 foot or 40-foot container. Your vehicle will be placed in this secure container and loaded onto the ship for transport. The vehicle will be protected from the elements of weather and any other factor that could be hard on your vehicle. You can also transport your personal and household goods with your vehicle when you choose the container shipping method.
