Located in Sarmacca District, Groningen is the capital town of Suriname. Once the new road was built in 1960 that linked the Albina via Paramaribo to the Nieuw Nickerie, Groningen started to grow. The roads to Groningen become a very usable road.
If you want to export your vehicle over to Suriname, you will need to make sure that you comply with the rules and regulations concerning the shipping of your vehicle internationally. It is your responsibility to ensure that all paperwork is submitted and documents are filled out. You will also be responsible for paying any fees before you vehicle is shipped. You may want to ship when the weather is not so wet. Suriname is well known for the raining seasons and May through July is considered the most wet months so the roadways could possibly be washed out and difficult to get through. In addition, the climate is very hot so you will need to make sure that your fluids are all checked before you go to avoid any busted hoses.
Speaking to an agent at A1 Auto Transport service will help you be more prepared for importing. The can make sure you have all the necessary paperwork filled out and in your hands for customs. This paperwork will need to be submitted before you import your vehicle. The transport company will be able to assist you in determining which forms you will need based on where you are going. You will need to provide the following documentation:
- Your driver's license.
- Power of Attorney Affidavit.
- Vehicle Insurance.
- Social Security Cards.
- Title of the vehicle.
A1 Auto Transport Service will take the time to explain to you why you need the documents and will give you the paperwork that you will need to fill out. You will also have a choice to have your vehicle picked up at a particular location and then driven to the export port or the vehicle can be picked up and delivered once it arrives in Suriname. The transport service agent can help you arrange this and explain any options you have. You will also need to know what shipping methods are available for you. Before your vehicle is shipped, you will need to steam clean it in order to remove any dirt on the outside, take out all personal items from the inside of the car as well.
Once you reach Groningen, the Suriname Customs will then look over all the required documents to ensure that you have clearance for the country. They will also make sure that you have everything with you in preparation for your vehicle arriving. No vehicles will be allowed if they are more than five years old. You can apply for an exemption through the Ministry of Trade and Labor but you may not get the exemption. If your vehicle is thought to be valued at more than $25,000 then you will need to pay taxes of no less than 40% of the actual cost, including insurance, freight, and the value of the car. At this time, you can pay all the annual taxes too. These taxes are based on the weight of the vehicle. According to the Road Traffic Act of Suriname, all drivers will need to have an international driving license. You will need an entry document in order to clear customs. For this, you will need the following:
- Your driver's license.
- Proxy that will secure the clearance.
- Insurance on the vehicle in Suriname.
- Shipping verification documents.
- Registration showing proof that you have owned your vehicle for at least six months.
- Appraisal of your vehicle showing the total value if it is new.
If you need further assistance on documents needed for shipping vehicles into Suriname, you will need to contact the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency. You can also contact the Suriname Embassy located in Washington, DC. They will be able to direct your questions or issues to the right person. Before your shipment date, contact A1 Auto Transport Service to ensure that you have everything you need and you have the total amount due to importing. You will also need to confirm the pick-up and delivery. You need a total quote from the shipper stating the cost before your vehicle is loaded and ready.
There are two ways to ship your vehicle to Suriname- Roll On/ Roll Off method and Container. The Roll On/ Roll Off shipping method entails your vehicle being driven onto the ship. This method is fast and simple and it doesn't cost as much. If you need to bring more than just your car with you, then a container may be the answer for you. You will be able to load your vehicle and all your personal items inside the container where it is then loaded onto the ship for importing. If you need more information about shipping your vehicle internationally, then you can visit the Federal Maritime Commission website to learn more.
